Zach you have to remember if you do any brake up grades unless its a 94+ you have to change out hte front spindles. If it never sees the track 96s are just fine.

Brake upgrade

Regarding the brake upgrade there are two ways to go. I need to do some more research on this but this is my understanding of it so far: You can upgrade (I have an '89) to early 90's which is a relatively simple upgrade. To upgrade to the '96 (I think) it involves the changing of the spindle. My first step was the 16" slicers. I will research the brake upgrade a little more thoroughly now.

Sorry I don't have more info for you.

any 89-93 requires the spindle change, and 16" wheels UNLESS You just 'upgrade' to the 94-95 Rotors which are 10.8" IIRC. 96s are 11.8"s (IIRC). This is what I had on my 93 and I had them installed at FPS, and they used all Ford parts. Installed it ran me 1300 and some change. If all you do is street driving as I said these are plenty. Of all the mods that I had, I'd have to say these were the best ones. TCE makes some awesome brakes as does Baer. Also if your in for a little fabrication work some guys have put on the Cobra brakes and they look sweet. :)

I got the car in June 2002 and so far I have had the front rotors machined, new rear rotors and pads (and caliper bracket on passenger rear), new front motor mount... that's all that I can think of right now. In the works for 03 are axle shaft seal on passenger side axle, camber adjustment and alignment, and new tires (maybe some 17's with tires  ).

Quick question for all of you:

I finally got around to researching my '96 front brake upgrade for my '89 and found some knuckles, calipers and caliper brackets from a '96 donor vehicle. This vehicle had anti-locks on it and was wondering if that is going to be a problem for me? Obviously I don't care (nor want, for that matter) about the anti-lock feature, just want to make sure that it won't be a problem?

Thankies All!!

knuckles won't work. IIRC Tie rods mount in different spots
the knuckles have to be from 94/95 Taurus.

Ryan:

I'm sorry, I had my years mixed up:bash:

I have anti-lock knuckles out of a '94 along with the calipers and brackets. Then I need to buy '96 Rotors and pads, correct?

I'm just wondering if the anit-lock feature on these knuckles is going to give me problems?

'Preciate the help!!

You'll need the 96 caliper brackets to clear the rotors. I did the swap on my moms 94 ATX last spring, and it took, 96 rotors, and 96 Caliper brackets, i kept her calipers, and used the 94/95 pads as well. So you can use the 94/95 Calipers. Your ABS should be just fine.
