Pics make the lights look darker than what they are. Also plan on adding the blackout panel and painting the side marker lights the same way.

I was just going to say you should do a black out panel as well, but you seem to have that idea already in mind. They came out great

Those look awesome! I am debating doing the same on my black '12 GT.
I only assume that you sanded the lenses prior to applying the VHT to scuff them?! What sandpaper grit did you use for that step?

Very nice! Where in VA are you?

I'm in Danville (southside)

03,

I didn't take any any pre-paint pics, but I wet sanded the lights with 1000 & then 1500 grit sand paper. Washed them and allowed the to dry. Used two coats of vht with 7 mins of tack time between coats followed by three coats of clear coat that I got at the local paint supply store. I forgot the brand, but it was only about $50/quart. I used a hvlp spray gun. I can't say if using rattle can clear would yield the same results or not.

SteelTown

Its no other color mixed in. The pics just make it look that way. The camera on the old school iPhone 3gs isn't exactly the best lol

FourSix,

The wet sand/buff isn't absolutely necessary, but will yield a much nicer finish. It also smoothed out the very light orange peel on the surface and now it's completely smooth. As much as I hate to say it, te finish on these
lights is slicker than the paint on the car.

For anyone local, I can offer tips/advice or possibly paint your tails/other lights for a very reasonable price

They turned out great, nice work.
I had mine tinted, lighter than yours, not even as dark as my factory tinted 3rd brake light, and a VA State Trooper pulled me over one day. I had just started down the road, not even up to speed. Had no idea why he pulled me over, he stood there for a few seconds and then asked me if my tail were tinted. I honestly think he thought I was gonna be a young kid with an attitude when he pulled me over. But when I he saw that I was a harmless, polite, 40 somehting year old, he just started looking for something else, who knows? He didn't give me a ticket, but told me they had to come off. I was pissed they looked so good on my car. Mine were painted too and took a lot of effort. You said you live in Danville, I live in Martinsville, so if you come down this way, be careful. I have LT's O/R X and he said nothing about how loud it was, I guess his "thing" is tint?
Anyway, again yours turned out nice, esp. with that color.
