From what the press has been saying, the 2005 Mustang will share a modified DEW platform (AKA Lincoln LS and Thunderbird). But I have also heard the the base model and the GT will have a solid rear axles, and only the Cobra will have IRS... just like the current line-up.

Is this true? Say it isn't so... solid rear axles?

There are a lot of people that want those live axles because of drag racing. Unless the IRS is heavy duty, GT guys going crazy on the horsepower often prefer a live axle. Plus, we can't blame Ford for looking for places to make the car less expensive. There aren't any companies that give away IRS cars.:)

While it would be great to have the IRS in all Mustangs, Ford will equip the base and GT models with a solid axle to contain costs. Plus a lot of Mustang owners drag race and the soild axle is much better suited to that than an IRS.
