spring compressor question

I went to auto zone to rent a spring compressor (puttin in pro kit) and they did not have a coil spring compressor only the strut spring compressor. For those who don't know, difference is strut compressor comes in two pieces and clamps on the outside instead of up through the middle. My question is will these work, I have never used a strut compressor before. I once saw a guy get hit in the face with a suddenly uncompressed spring, man that was ugly. I'm too pretty to get hit in the face with a spring. I'm pretty sure it will work, just want to be 100% sure.

yes it will work, compress each side of the spring equally. Be carefull...

I would NOT use anything exept the actual coil spring compressor, this is the third car (2nd Cobra) that I have done and today on my rear spring take out, it looke good while I was compressing it when it suddenly snapped and decompressed, scared the crap out of me and I got the spring out but I still dont know why it slipped off and decompressed, just be safe, if it was out of the suspension and decompressed it would have hurt
