I already have done the window with string test and i do have it on video. The air seperates about 3/4 of the way down the rear window. My question is how do you test the air on and around the wing?

I suppose you could also do the string test there, but I know F1 has used the oil trick in the past. With the oil test, you simply put droplets of oil on the rear spoiler where you want to test the direction of flow. Short of having a wind tunnel, I'm not sure what other options you have.

Aircraft use multiple rows of vgs on their wings to delay flow separation why couldn't we?

I've thought of doing this also. If the Agent 47 VG's get us 3/4 the way down the window, another row would surely get us to the deck lid before separation. But...then you get into it interfering with your view and maybe even being a little bit tacky.

I couldnt justify the price of those, I went with a cheaper brand that more closely resembled the dorsal fin on a fish. Theyre smaller than the a47 generators but I still think theyll be effective.

Tacky on a race car is several laps down to functional downforce and less drag.

People dont say much about the mods and pics I post of things Ive done to my race car. I guess either I do crap work and no one will tell me or what I do is just not applicable to what most people have planned for their mustang.

True, but unfortunately my car will be dual purpose: daily driver and high speed runs

nice to see more people as crazy as I am
my car is also a dual purpose car, while I do have a beater for bad weather I like to drive my car everyday in summer but it needs to be able to run high speeds on track and Autobahn

I don't have the wing or the vg's on the car yet. I bought a '00 Cobra R wing years ago but never installed it. My offseason rear wing budget was instead spent on a new SA10 helmet and a head and neck restraint to be legal for '12.

After reading Race Car Aerodynamics by McBeath, Ive decided to use the Cobra R wing. My misconceptions about the wing had prevented me from using it. Now, Im going to add larger end plates to help keep air from spilling out from under the wing. Another misconception was that the wing wasnt high enough to be effective, thats before I knew about ground effect on a wing. The light bulb is lit although dimly!

What are the disadvantages of this system?

Just thought of a draw back on the Cobra R degas bottle. The reducer fittings are no longer available from Ford. I had to fab two reducer hose barb fittings for my race car to make the install happen.

Look closely in the pic I posted and you can see the upper reducer.

As for the steeda hood, open the vents up and make them functional.

I guess I should have actually asked a question rather then hinting at what I want and hoping someone would provide it. That was dumb on my part.

Are the vents at the correct anlge to actually provide sufficient heat extraction?

I understand that the expansion tank would need to be removed but it would all be for nothing if the vents can't remove enough heat to make a difference.

haha no worries, the vents will work just fine once theyre opened up. Are the angles optimized to provide the absolute best air flow out from under the hood? Probably not, but there's not much you can do about figuring out whats best without a trip to the windtunnel.

Then once you have this figured out from testing multiple hoods with different fin angles you very well may find out that one angle doesnt change much to the next. Finding those last few percent is beyond most anyones grasp or expense at the amatuer motorsports level, wing it and maybe you'll get lucky. Either way its better than when the thing was a bling bling hood just stuck over the engine.

Open the vents up and be happy that the hood is actually functional now.

Steeda "cobra R" hood | Mustang Forums at StangNet

Scroll down to the silver car that did his decals differently. oooooohhh. Functional looking decals, would they extract more heat if they were carbon fiber look decals?

Anyways, the vents on the q400 hood are in the correct location to do some good, if they were any further back, the openings would start to act like a cowl induction hood forcing air under the hood. That's the exact opposite of what we're trying to accomplish here.

Once theyre opened up and the underside of the hood is cut out I think you'll be plenty suprised by the amount of air that goes out through the hood.

Yea, sorry, about getting off track on this stuff. I got distracted. Nonetheless I think the hood is a go for me. Like I said, it's really the only thing that will clear this "stupid" 00R intake I have and still be functional ;-)

I'll take a pic when I head to work later of the air port near the windshield but it still pulls a decent amount of air out of the port.

Awesome. I'm sure we would all benefit from at least having a closer look of one of these.

Wrong location to function as a heat extractor when the car is moving. The base of the windshield is a high pressure area and air will actually be forced under the hood. Hence the term cowl induction hood.

Google it if you dont beleive me.

I believe you. I know how they work. I can just seal it up. No biggie.
