Hey everyone,

So recently i've decided to put together a bug out bag for myself and my girl. I was wondering if others on this forum had done the same and what your checklists where. I'm just trying to get a feel for what should be in the bag.

Share your bag contents here, and be specific. For example: Kinfe - SOG’S Seal Pup Elite.

Some of the things i'm looking for advice on specifically is water filtration (i have purifier pills but i've heard there are better ways), a good knife, a good quality bag, and a good survival book.

Also, feel fre to talk about anything else survival related like tactics and hunting grounds and plants and so on. I'd love to hear any advice i can get and i'm sure others would as well!

Fire away!

I've got mine setup for at least one friend.
2 .45's. with about 100 rounds.
A 12 gauge, with some birdshot and buckshot, for when the sh!t really hits the fan and I have to hunt for myself.
An AR with about 50 rounds.
Leatherman super tool.
A SOG seal pup.
SAS survival guide. Would also like to get a good tree/plant id book.
Fire starters, matches, lighter.
Gps, compass.
A Pot.
The dog.

Pretty much the basics, can change a bit depending on why I'm getting out of dodge.

Other things I'm too lazy to track down, and are objective in which works best for the person.

-Handgun. Look for common calibers, durable, reliable, little maintenance.

-Tent. look for lightweight, backpacking models, two person, 3 season.

-Sleeping bag. look for lightweight, backpacking models, compact, 3 season.

-Tarp X 2. Shelter, Collect water etc..

-Mess kit. utensils, pots, pans. Used for boiling water, cooking etc..

-M.R.E. or the likes. Nice to have a meal ready when you are.

-Binoculars. The first number is the magnification the second is the amount of light allowed in. Don't need anything to fancy, compact is good.

-Compass, local maps. Like almost everything else listed it's useless unless you know how to use it.

-Flashlights. Don't skimp here. Waterproof, LED, low consumption, and good batteries.

-Axe/hatchet. Gransfors & Bruks are hands down the best, but come with a price tag. Your average schmoe doesn't know how to properly swing one or care for it anyways, but it's the best.

1. Gun

with it you can get anything from the unarmed.

Pretty much, if we're talking Revolution here. Then I'd go heavier on the weaponry and lighter on the food/camping supplies.

If we're talking bombed back to the stone age then the camping, water purifiers, and fire stuff is moved a little higher up, and you'll have to balance your armament. This is all assuming you can't just hijack a solar powered Humvee to carry all your essentials.:lol1:

Pretty much a pistol/long gun combo should be a given for any world's end scenario.

IMO

Some nice lists there guys. Gave me some good ideas. A radio is something i hadn't thought of. What about walkies? Are they worth carrying?

Thursday, the water purifier you linked looks good. That's something i'll definatley look at getting. Would you know how effecting the purifying tablets are though? In case something where to happen to the filter.

Is there a specific bag that anyone can reccomend? I know a lot of you here go overseas and have probably tested a lot of bags doing so. I'd also want a reccomendation for a good pair of boots, i have some in minds but wanna see what someone with experience or knowlege says.

While this is true, i'd rather not go people hunting. I'd rather be able to high-tail it to my safe spot and be able to survive without having to hurt anyone else.

I was actually thinking of having two bags, one for survival and one for weaponry. Although, if all goes according to plan (which it never does), then i'll make it to my safe spot where i'll have plenty of weaponry at hand. It'll take some time to build it all up but i think it's well worth the money.

It's "bug out bag" not "bug out uhaul".
lol

This made me lol :lol1:

EDIT: Also some good advice i read online is to pack something for inspiration/hope as well. For me that would be a bible and some family photos. I'm sure others have their own stuff that will help them out. Possible packign something for mental stimulation wouldn't be a bad idea either, like sudoku puzzles or a deck of cards or something so you don't go insane with paranoia lol..

EDIT 2: If there are any more book reccomendations i'd appreciate it very much. The SAS guide is something i was looking at along with the Army rangers guide.

Radio depends on if you want to be in contact with people I guess.

I'd go with an 8inch tactical boot. Heavier than a sneaker, but good ankle support. You can get 'em in gortex if you don't like wet feet. There are plenty of good brands, and the prices aren't too bad. I have a set made by Bates and like 'em.

I'm using a backpack as in theory I want to be able to cover ground, (though I also have a BPS boat bag, it's large, high vis and water resistant.)

The inspirational materials are a good idea. There are a few books on tales of survival. Survival is a mindset, concentrate on the now, prepare as best as possible, remain positive (but realistic). Your job is to survive.

At least that's what they say!

Ive got pretty much what everyone else has listed as far as knives and fire starter and what not.

For water filtration, Ive got the Katadyn Hiker plus a few different kinds of purifying tablets.

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Katadyn-Hiker-PRO-Water-Microfilter/dp/B0007U012U]Amazon.com: Katadyn Hiker PRO Water Microfilter: Sports &…[/ame]

For plant ID, (make sure it applies to your area, or where youll be lol) Ive got this...

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Plants-Pacific-Northwest-Coast-Washington/dp/1551050404]Amazon.com: Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast: Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, and…[/ame]

Its got more plants than Ive ever seen, and it has multi paragraph descriptions for every plant.

I need that Katadyn Pocket Water Micro Filter. Looks a lot more durable than the others I was researching a couple years ago.

My buddy and I had this conversation the other day. Definitely want long term storagable food hidden. Way to open it. Guns, knives and all the above people talked about. We even talked about setting up a couple of coal mine entrances for a place to stay and defend and live out our days. I have a couple of nice ones on my property and the air flows thru most all the time so I do not have to worry about methane gas building up. Source of water there with one of the drinking purifiers.
