Hey SVTP, thought I’d share my current build. Goal with the car is a high powered "street car" that will see quite a bit of quarter mile action. Anything north of 1000 rwhp and i'll be happy. I come from a foxbody back ground, skipped right to 03/04 Cobras but always liked the SN95s so this is my first one.

I picked this car up from a member here about 2 years ago when I was stationed overseas. It sat in storage for a year until I got stationed back in the states. I picked it from storage in April ’16 and drove it until August ’16 when I started the build.

History on the car: 30, 4XX original miles! I’m the 4th owner, the second owner did all the previous mods (owned since 2002), 3rd owner only had it 2 months. I bought it knowing it had a hurt motor, and the extra parts were worth the extra $$$ to me.

Car when I got it:

I drove the car for a few months and it ran hard and flawless with the Vortech T-Trim and 10 psi non-intercooled. It still had the faint ticking and tapping sound. With my 99 Cobra still in the picture, it was hard to focus on this one as I kept wanting to mod the 99 so I sold it so I could start the 97 build.

Sold the 99:

With the 99 sold now, it was time to kick off the build. I had a couple spare teksid blocks so I sent one down to my buddy Ryan (04Ryan). Since he’d been holding onto my engine parts for me while I was overseas it was easier to send him the block than him send me my heads, rotating assembly and misc hardware. Plus I just moved to this area and did not trust any local machine shops…and still don’t lol. I had upcoming schools and training so once the machine shop was done, I had my buddy go ahead and assemble the long block and degree the cams.

While block work was going on and in between my training I started to tear the car and hurt motor apart as well as selling off all the mods not used for this build.

Once I sold the Vortech and ported short runner intake there was no turning back:

Nice project.
You a lot further than me. I have the skill to put whatever I want I just don't have the cash right now. So I'm just keeping mine a driver until I can get all the parts I want. I've also thought about selling the car and just go with buying a 03 or 04 like I had.

The piston looms like the ring gap was butting together. Once that happens they usually fold resulting in a broken piston.

Thanks! I know what you mean, luckily the bulk of the motor parts I had been collecting for 3 years to build my 99 but it only made sense to build this one. With selling my 99 and selling the parts off this one it really helped offset the cost.

Im much further in the build, couldn't get photobucket to cooperate while making this thread. Stay tuned, more pics and progress coming soon!

Started to strip the engine bay and the further I went the more I figured I go ahead and try a wire tuck, Scott Rod panels and bay repaint. Overall it was pretty clean with just a few scratches here and there but I couldn't leave it alone.

I wanted to keep the 2 sensors in the coolant crossover so I modified a Mach 1 crossover.

Had the oil return fitting, the extra sensor in crossover and holes in intake lid all welded up. Then everything went off to powder coating. From intake to oil pan!

While everything was at the powder coaters I went ahead and did a battery relocation and finished up the wire tuck. Pretty simple if you're already have a car torn down this far haha. The red wire is not my battery cable, it's an 8 gauge for future fuel pumps. The battery lead is black and 1/0 gauge. That was a little over kill and a pain to work with when routing it.

Mounted the under hood power distribution block under the drivers fender. Plenty of room especially removing the washer reservoir. I relocated the horns to open up a spot to mount fuse block. I'm just hoping once the turbos go in there is still room.
