In light of the gun porn thread, I am wondering if any of you guys have actually had to use your gun to defend yourself or your family. Any stories of attempted robbery, being mugged, or any life threatening situation where you had to draw your gun please post here. A lot of guys act like tough guys when they have a weapon, but when the situation actually rises when you need to defend yourself, adrenaline takes over, and guys usually freeze in fear. I never had to use a firearm for defense and hope I never will, just wondering if any of you have stories that would help on what you to do in case the situation ever rises.

I pulled out my shotgun last night and went stalking through the trees with my flashlight. A rustling and a chirping sound had caused me to load some buckshot. I was waving my spotlight around in the thick woods when out came a little man with a potbelly--he stood about three foot tall and spoke in a strange tongue: "Eewool dabble dogdoo," he said in a high-pitched whine. I raised my barrel up and about that time he pulled out his peter and started whacking it off. It was obviously a gay dwarf! I fired and he disappeared in a sparkling burst of stars. Go figure...

There was a member who posted his story a while back.
Can't remember what thread. Maybe early in the gun porn thread?

If you want to avoid freezing, then train like you fight. Standing still at a range isnt going to do it. Get real training and do IDPA type competition.

You freeze because you don't know what do and are unsure of your abilities, training will overcome that.

IMHO, it's not a good idea to talk about the people you have shot...

Great advice! Also, +1 on not talking about those that you have shot.

People telling you stories will not prepare you for anything, take Jerry's advice and go get some practical training and practice often.

My abilities is not what is to question, it is to question whether it is okay to potentially take the life of another person, a right which non of us have to do to each other.

Thnak you for the response though.

Its your right if someone was trying to hurt you or your family. I wouldnt even hesitate if someone tried to hurt my little girls.

Now we have all kinds of zombies running around as well.

You mentioned fear and freezing, not a moral dilemma.

If you have not answered this question, lock your gun away until you are sure of your answer. Your answer will determine whetehr or not it stays locked up.

Will is the greatest attribute in a fight. Without the will to fight, skill and equipment are meaningless.
