i have done this to my '88 LX but it is a little different. I actually didnt remove it entirely, i just removed all the unneccesary crap that attaches to it. The "plumbing" if you will. My advise to you is to go out and by the off-road pulley and bracket that replaces the smog pump so you dont have to run a smaller belt and risk it rubbing on itself or the belt routing getting all ****ed up. It should come with details instructions and it is pretty straight forward. Good Luck!!
