I have decided S197 GT500 > S550 GT500.

Yesterday I was driving through a small town and passed a gas station with a heritage s550 at the pump. There was a crowd around it and the owner was talking it up.

Yawn.

It did nothing for me. I am not a fan of the heritage base models. This is the version for the Sunday driver who is never going to touch it and is afraid to beat on it. The opposite of a car guy IMO. I have more respect for GTP homo than the Jay Leno wannabe.

30 secs later, a 2013 convertible passed me. I won't lie, it got me hard. It was so much rawer, so much truer to the ethos, so much cooler.

Seeing the two one after another really stuck with me.

Don't get me wrong the 550 does everything better. It's faster. It's more comfortable. It's more refined. Blah blah blah.

But that is not the point. I want something unrefined. Uncomfortable. Wants to kill me. NASTY.

"My wife can drive it" is a bug not a feature.

The 197 has it and is unapologetic. The 550 does not and it is by design.

This why the 197 now has my heart.

I can't wait til 15 years from now when we're talking about how the S550 was so raw and unrefined and brutal compared to whatever Mustang is out at that point in time. I remember back when the 07-09 GT500's were the newest latest thing and terminator guys thought they were too refined.

For raw I take out the ‘14 and for longer twisty drives I prefer the ‘22. When I have less than 30min for a cruise I prefer the ‘14 manual and the additional power.
Glad I can enjoy both and each special in different ways.

I love my glass roof 14. Not only does it look amazing, but it stiffens the chassis.
I only assume the bean counters got to the designers on the S550 .

I loved my 14’ ….

It was a great car, although not without faults.

I am also a staunch supporter of manual vs auto….

With that said, I will take the Predator over the Trinity each and every time, if give then choice of one vs the other.

There is no debate (nostalgia and feelings aside) the new GT500 is a FAR and AWAY a superior performer over the 13-14. It is also much better in not metrical aspects in my opinion.

S197 Platform VS S550 Platform GT500's are two very different shelby's. The S197 is just a raw 3 pedal monster that wants to snatch the soul out of you while the S550 is a technically advanced track car. I view the S550 as a GT500/350 hybrid. There both great cars and a handful for the GM/Mopar fan boys out on the streets. With that said.......I prefer a 3 pedal soul snatcher

S197 is just everything a Mustang should be. It's not trying to be anything else.
S197 GT500> A lot of other cars for $80k-$90k > Something besides those > S550 GT500

S197 is more muscle car and less S550 Sports Car. 2014 Shelby would be the ticket for my next Mustang. But I’ve been saying that.
