I feel like I can't really enjoy my car because I know my syncros are going out and if I want to wind my car out I know I won't be able to shift into the next gear. The best I can do is drop it a gear and give it some gas but not up to the RPMs I'd like, or I can floor it in first and get a little sideways only to not be able to shift into second.

At this point I'm starting to want some solutions. I'll be driving 30-40 mins to school 3 days a week this semester, so I got a DD with better gas mileage than 24mpgs, an escort zx2. 850 dollars and it runs great and has cold AC. Now I've been thinking I could sell the Mach and try and find a Terminator that would put me about the same payments each month, or sell the Mach and drive the scort until I get out of school then try and find something like a Boss or '11 GT500.

I owe about 7k on my car still and also thought I might get an additional loan from my same loan just add to it so that I could pay to have my transmission built. I love my car to death and really this would be what I'd love to do, especially because after school I'd love to really build up the Mach and have it a pretty fast street car. I love the feeling of New Edges and I really don't know if I could break down and sell the Mach, even if I knew in the future I'd probably be able to replace it with something much more refined and powerful. But I haven't even looked into if this is possible with my credit union, I just know of someone that had her car break down and add about 1k to her loan to get it fixed.

Just like to hear what others think or would do in my situation.

They should have sent out a recall notice and replaced all the shift forks and synchros in the 3650s with better. I'm on my second transmission and this one is starting to do the same thing....again.

If money is real tight I would probably do the following:

-Go get a firm quote on how much it will cost to fix your transmission
-Either save up that money as fast as you comfortably can or put your stock parts back on (assuming you kept them) and sell your performance parts to pay for the transmission

All those aftermarket parts do no good if the car can't be driven.

30-40 min drive to work with 4.30 gears? Yeesh.

Also, I dont know your financial situation, but I would try to avoid adding onto your loan if possible. Id probably entertain the idea if you had a low rate (like around 3-4%)...but you have to be real careful because it can be a slippery slope. Last thing you want is to get over your head due to your car loan.

just my $0.02.

It's right at 39 miles to school 3 days a week this semester, and I just got 43.34 mpgs going there and back today so the Mach being geared doesn't bother me considering it gets right at the same it did before it was geared. Just highway is a bit less but I got the escort for that now.

The car can be driven and I know if I'm careful I can probably last with the car at least until I'm out of school without anything being messed around in the transmission. I just bought the car to enjoy it and right now I'm only getting about 60% of enjoyment of it when I should be getting 100%. I love the looks/sound/feel and everything, just would like to be able to run through all the gears without it not wanting to go into gear after winding out one gear.

Yeah I don't want to add to my loan but at this point it's getting old having the car and not being able to fully enjoy it. If I sell it, after I get out of school and find a more refined car, I'll end up wanting another Mach and wanting to build it to have a nice amount of power for a weekend driver anyways. Right now my rear is built and I have the car sitting exactly how I want, other than it not being too fast. If I go ahead and have the transmission built all I'll need to mess with when I get out of school is getting the engine built and getting enough air/fuel for it.

Or I could return it to stock and just sell it, get a truck with the left over cash, and have no car payments which would be nice while I'm in school.

Right now I'm leaning toward finding a way to getting the tranny built, whether it's save half and add half to the loan or whatever. Either way, I need something to be done about it.

1k or less to fix the trans sounds better to me than a different car with another full term loan.

Well I'm talking more around the 1,500 range. If I'm having it worked on, I'm not having the same shit parts put back in I'm gonna want to spend a little more and have it built and that way down the road after school and I start the engine build, I'll already have the rear and tranny out of the way. That's what I'm thinking I'm going to do now I don't want to mess with selling it, plus I love my Mach.

And I've only been paying on the Mach a little over a year so it wouldn't be too bad.

I did the secret sauce that's on M1R and it seemed to help for a little while but now it's back to doing the same thing.
