Timing advance issue

Hey guys, so here's my issue. I have an 85 gt 5.0 carb'd and put some nitrous to it. When I use the nitrous I need to retard my timing about 8 degrees. But the problem is if I do that then I don't have enough initial advance and it runs terrible in the low end without nitrous with issues like hesitating, falling on its face when I hit the gas, and stalling.

So I need a way to be able to adjust my ignition timing on the fly. I know the best way is to buy a 6AL or something similar with an adjustable timing control box and a stock tach adapter. But I don't want to spend close to $500 for all of that.

Is there a cheaper way to get what I want?
