I have a 89 2.3L Fox for my DD. Driving it to work today the Timing Belt popped. So instead of going to work i gotta fix the car, the work its self doesnt concern me, but im worried about is getting the timing correct. How do i go about lining the spockets up before putting the new belt on?

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the 2.3L is an interference motor, meaning the broken belt may be the very least of your problems at this point.

I'd start with a leak down to ensure you didn't bend any valves, and assuming that passes find a service manual for the car and it should have some detail on how to line up everything correctly.

You can get an entire motor from a junkyard easier then changing the belt and broken parts on the old motor.

+1 on the pistons and valves definately being destroyed.

so much for the pistons being destroyed... ROFL
valves, not pistons

if this were an interference motor (which thank goodness this is not) dont bother checking. just pull the head(s) and fork the money out to the machine shop to get rebuilt. its not a question of if they are bent, rather how many valves need to be replaced.

lucky for you!
