2000 mustang gt 4.6

took off old cams

went to put on new cams ligned up copper marks to crankshaft sprocket marks
crankshaft at 12 oclock

when i barely move it left to right it wants to touch the valves....
so i put stock cams back on and same thing. car drove fine before hand....the tensioner guides were worn out so thats why i took it down...now im putting stage 1 cams in it....both stock cams and stage one do the same thing....

i've done timing chains on these engines on 2 other 4.6 and noproblems....not sure why they want to touch the valves...

The crankshaft needs to be a top dead center on cylinder #1 when timing the engine. Per the diagrams, the double hash mark on the crank will be facing downward.

The LH cam sprocket should be at approximately 12 o'clock, and the right hand sprocket should be at approximately 11 o'clock.

Then the copper links on the chain should line up with the double hash marks on the crank and the timing dots on the cam sprockets.
