My understanding is that "deep staging" is when you:

1. Light the pre-stage bulbs
2. Light the staged bulbs
3. Roll forward just enought to unlight the prestage bulbs but not the staged bulbs (obviously)

This is to better your reaction time but limits your ET due to less "roll-out"

Heads up racers often use this....for most of us it's not needed.

To add to my explanation....BOTH cars must have BOTH pre-stage and staged lights lit before you can roll forward enough to undo the pre-stage lights.....you would then be "deep-staged"
