Anyone know if the '03 can use GM synchromesh trans. fliud? I've got 4 quarts sitting around that I was going to put into my '99 cobra, but with a T-56 instead of a T-45... Also, how many quarts does the T-56 take? And yes, I did run a search on "synchromesh", but got zero hits.

I use it on my tremec 3550 as it was recomended by them. (tremec now makes the t56 I think, I forgot if it was them or Borg-Warner who survived the buyout.)

A trans usually has two plugs, fill the trans on level ground till it starts to leak from the top plug.

Too narrow a search - try 'fluids' or search on my sig - i have posted tons on this.

Takes 4 quarts or until fluid runs out of fill hole - whichever comes first. Best to do by removing shifter.

GM Syncromesh is OK - a fortified engine oil. Red Line MTL is better - a light gear oil with Group V esters. Regarding what does Tremec recommend - the tranny comes with a tag that says use Dexron III. The Corvettes come with ATF factory filled.

Really, any of these fluids is fine - depends on how you plan to use the car - daily driver in cold climates - stay with ATF. Use Red Line D4 ATF for the best ATF protection. Track use - MTL.

Allan: I did a full analysis of GM Synchro is a subsequent post - check it out. Glad to help - there is so much information and mis-info on these Forums.
