I read so many posts about the tri-ax shifter being noisy that I decided to use all of the stock insulation with the tri-ax shifter and also insulated the shifter to handle with rubber. The rubber I used is cut out from a piece of rubber from a jar opener which I bought for less than $1.00 from Wal-Mart. I doubled it up to make it about 1/16 thick and used it on both sides of the handle. The shifter is very precise and is now, to my ears, as quiet as stock.

Good post thank you. Did you try it out without the rubber first? How do you know you would not like the sound :)?

I did not try the shifter without the rubber insulation. With my wife and kid riding with me regularly, I need the car relatively quiet. In my younger days I'm sure the whining transmission noise would have been music to my ears; however, as a family man I must please everyone.
