The V8 SHO motor is a collaboration (sp?) between the two. The block itself is based off of the 2.5L Duratec V6 (same bore stroke, etc) but with two more cylinders. the intake track (iirc) and the cylinder heads are actually Yamaha design.

Were as the V6 SHO engine was 100% Yamaha produced in Japan and shipped complete from Japan to Atlanta, GA.

The 3.4L V8 was produced here, shipped to Japan and then back again to Atlanta.

There are other factors slowing the GenIII down, not the motor.

In fact I think if the motor was mated to a real tranny and in a car as light as the the other Gens I think the 8 would be faster.

It sure has hell sounds better...
