and the ugly. I need your opinons quickly please. This maybe a last minute purchase for the husbands cobra. I have the CAI and the QMP coming and he mentioned a jammer is this one good? Do you suggest another? It is quite expenese is it worth that much $$? Can I get one that is just as good for less money? I have never saw a detector cost this much? Is it worth it? Thanks.

Valentine One is definitely one of the best. You can't go wrong with that purchase.

An alternative is a Bel Remote radar detector. I use one. The antenna mounts under the front bumper valence, out of sight. The control module mounts under the upper inside of the gauge console area. It is powered off of the radio accessory fuse.

This is very stealth. I don't have to worry about disconnecting and hiding the radar detector every time I leave the vehicle.

Found one for sale here on ebay.

My Bel remote radar has saved me more times than I can count.

Just my $0.02.

Would the one you have be the Bel 980? I was just looking at that one and also the escort passport 8500? These are less money and are ranked higher in the 02 test of the best radar dectortors? Thanks for the info and the link btw.

Valentine 1... Valentine 1... Valentine 1....

There is no substitute.

Been running them for years... My buds get tickets with other units giving late or false readings... I'm ticket free (so far).

Is the only place to get the Valentine One is from there directly? I wanted to put this on my AE card and they don't accept AE?

The V1 is the best, for radar. Laser on the other hand is another story. The V1 will let you know that you have been tagged by laser and if you are speed, you will know you are about to get a ticket. :( No laser detector will save you.

Once you get used to the arrows on the the V1 you will never use another detector, period.

The directional arrows and the bogey counter are the main strenghts of the V1.

... and he mentioned a jammer is this one good?

The V1 is not a jammer, just a detector.

I have been using the V1 with remote display for 2 months. It is an excellent system. The arrows and number of signals readouts really saved me several times. Cops will hide in parking lots by places with automatic doors. Basically an area where you always get a signal. The counter will tell you how many signals there are. You see 2 when there should be 1 and you can bust them. The different tones for the four different signals helps too. The best part is the arrows. You get warned and an idea of where the threat is, best feature IMO.

My remote sits right in front of my Oil Temp gauge but is low enough not to block its view. Checking radar is a simple glance down near the speedo. Muting the report is a shorter reach than radio volume or heater adjustment.

I feel very exposed when I drive my F150 4X4 and don't remember to get the V1 out and use it with the coil cord and windshield mount.

IMO the Valentine is the best detector on the market. . . .If my wife gave me a Valentine I would be very very pleased indeed.

As a side note; noticed you said jammer in one sentence, hope you meant detector. Just in case you did mean to say jammer, , , Stay away from any radar jammers! The only one that ever worked got the company owners in big trouble and run out of business by the Feds. Anything that's now on the market that is supposed to jam radar is most likely junk, as it's against Federal Law to jam radar.

Great guys thanks. Were can I buy the V1? Is it only available through the company or do they have dealers? Any chance of finding one in a retail store? Where did you purchase from?

Sorry Tammy... the V1 is only available only directly from Valentine Research. You can probably find a used on on eBay...

I think it's awesome. I have one and it's saved me MORE times than I can even count! I had the Escort Passport mounted next to it a few years ago (I bought both as a test) and the Valentine warned me 3/4 of a mile ahead and told me there were 3 "threats" instead of just a beep (which is what the Passport did.)

2 days... and the Passport was on its way back.

V1. U might want to search - we had a full discussion of this a few weeks ago.

P.S. I am an electrical engineer and would not even consider anything else in my Cobra - it has a V1 with the concealed display.

But one tip - you have to be a savvy owner - learn how radar works, understand how law enforcement uses it, and run with a pack.

I bought one about a month ago after a traffic stop that would have ended in my license being pulled if the officer would have truely know that I was doing nearly 3 times the posted speed limit. The bogey counter and directional indicators are priceless. The ease of installation and the fact that you mount the remote indicator where only you can see it and not the speeding motorist behind you, not to mention a cop. The power cables are easy to conceal, ordinary rj11 (Telephone Cable), or the coiled wire that I use when I travel in one of my other vehicles. As mentioned before lazer beams are appx 16 feet wide, so if you pick one up he is probably targeting you, or darn close to you. I tied a local shop and they wanted 499.00, for the detector only...got the best deal through valentine direct where I got the detector and remote unit for 50.00 less than I was quoted for the detector alone...Love it!

V1 is the best.
If you buy from eBay, get the s/n and check it using the upgrade page on the V1 website. This will tell you the status of the hardware and software in the used V1. Mine is the most recent V1.8 and it truely kicks butt.:)
