If you have a drill press, you might could make a fixture to keep your bit and tap straight. Good luck with the process. Sounds like you could use a break.

Heli coil came in today. Not sure why these aren’t stocked in parts or hardware stores. Bolt size is M8x1.25. I’ll be hand tightening this time around... ironically it’s only when I looked up and applied the spec torque that it stripped; been hand tightening them for years.

Most times those small fasteners are spec'd in inch lbs. In those instances it's better to us an inch lb torque wrench. Lower settings on a bigger torque wrench can sometime be unreliable.
