Since most of the new edge 2 valves with vortechs post here I will throw this in here.
I had a total of 4 shredded belts and the last one that shredded must of dug its way into the seal. I had a SKF 25mm 40mm 7mm viton double lipped seal sitting in a tool box for the past 4-5 years and I decided to use it. The seal that vortech used had a metal case with a nitrile base seal with spring. I tried to source one of those but couldnt find a good US part number to pick one up.
I seen this on my hood after I test drove my car with a few WOT pulls to test out the thump racing tensioner.
I'm not sure how the SKF will hold up if I have another belt incident.
First, I washed the blower off on the outside because of the belt dust and oil residue that built up. I used solvent in a bench parts washer. Solvent did leak into the case of the blower. I let it air dry.
When I removed the 10 allen bolts and used the 2 locations to pry the case from the dowel pins this is what I found. The clearance between the case and the bearings is pretty tight. I would say its around 1/64" to 1/32" maybe tighter because it took some finesse to remove and reinstall.
The seal failed and you can see the spring reinforcement around the shaft.
This should still be attached to the seal housing.
Bearing with all of the specs of rubber covering it.
New seal installed. Wish I would of put an extension on the socket I used because it didnt go in evenly at first.
You can see its a little wavy
All back together. Everything is German torqued.
All of the webbed parts of the blower housing were black and since the case is not smooth its not easy to clean. The solvent bath with scrubber made quick work of cleaning it. I think it took me 5 minutes to clean.
