My LS1 Swapped 1972 Datsun 240z
I figured id share my project on here now that i got it running finally.
Anywho, a bit of a preface,
I bought this thing last may after i sold my Starion. It was 900 bucks, and it didnt run. a bit of fiddling and a fuel filter solved that, and i ended up Manual swapping and doing some suspension work and driving it like that for a couple months. This was with the stock L24 and a 4 speed
Then after a couple months of driving it and having fueling issues, In october i decided to Pull the L24 in favor of an L28ET. Annoyingly i bit off a bit more than i could chew with the megasquirt, and i never ended up getting it running. and after 7 or so months of pain and hardship, in may, after getting a good deal on the LS1/T56 and some other running gear, i decided to do the swap, and since then have done in a month and a half what i failed to do in 7 with the L28...
When i got it
I promptly proceeded to Manual swap it and throw a few mods at it to get it road worthy.
These included swapping some panels to get rid of some of the damage on the car, so i ended up driving this around for a few months
With the tarbo motor, i do wish this had panned out, as it would have been fun.
I put a fuel cell in and cut out my bent to shit valence, and then ran out of bends when i made my exhaust, so it got a bit bosu
Then i replaced my floor boards and seats with some generic racing seats, and put in a tilton floor mount pedal set
Aluminum center console insert, and my speedhut gauges (center 3 are cheapo equus)
The Turbo motor when it was complete
Giant intercooler
Then i picked up a Front valence and a BRE Spoiler, much needed
Got creative with an old 350z badge, its SUPPOSED to read S30 Z, but everyone still thinks its 530, but whatever
As previously stated, after 7 months of getting abosulutely nowhere tuning the megasquirt on the L28. this happened
T56 vs the 4 speed, believe it or not the only necessary mod to the trans tunnel was cutting the mounting ears for the stock trans out and denting it for the reverse lockout
Hefty Hefty Hefty, Wimpy Wimpy Wimpy
I disassembled and resealed the motor, and got a High mount alternator kit, which was a bitch finding an alternator for... and got some purdy Valve covers on there
Finally got the motor and trans in the other week
Custom built my own headers
The car back on the ground after a month of flying, and only a mere 30 lbs heavier
Rats nest of a wiring job.
All wired up and discreetified. Note the IAT sensor on a bracket above the filter, thats ghetto engineering my friends...
The current setup is a Stock build LS1 and T56, FAST EZ-EFI Fuel control, and FAST XIM Ignition control.
I also started on my exhaust by modding the Thrush dual outlet muffler i got
Im going to be running it with dual Vertical tips, polished stainless dual wall.
Basically, First start was on monday, after getting the wiring finished and dealing with fuel leaks (avoid Ferrule fittings at all costs) she fired right up, we then got a video, which consisted of a start up that scared my mother shitless, and nothing else, because THEN i found out the clutch wouldnt disengage....
The next day we decided to swap master cylinders (.7 that i had to the .75 that my friend had, which is the stock camaro size) and despite my low hopes, she fired right up and went into gear
That made Monday the first time I have driven it in 9 months, and the first time in 4 or so that it has started and ran... and i must say, this thing is a beastie. I took my friend on a ride around the block, and just getting on it from 2-4 is rediculous, i cant wait for the ecu to self tune and for it to start to make more power...

This post is kind of rushed, i need to get to sleep, but the insomnia is kicking in. I meant to post this months ago, but better late than never i suppose...
