I took the drivers side valve cover off to see what the tick/tap in the head was and didn't see anything weird until I started looking at the cams. They have a distinct blue hue to them as though they were severely over heated. I would think that due to the lash adjuster/rocker arm being roller, this wouldn't happen. Also, I think 6-7 cam lobes had one weird scratch all the way around them. Has this been seen before? Would sitting most of it's life be the cause of this? Are the cams and rockers done for? Or should I just look into another engine for daily use while I rebuild this one?

I'm at my wits end with this noise. It's bad enough that you can feel it in the gas pedal sometimes. Also, the tick volume is sometimes loud or faint. Just like the tap is gone or feels like it's tapping morse back on your foot.
