What viscosity of engine oil do you use...

Just thought I would ask... 10w-30? 5w-30?

I was getting blow-by with 5-30. Switched to 10-30 and its allot better. I also run it in the summer with the heat the oil thins out real fast.

The 10w or 5w parts are the rating for an oil at non-operating temperatures or 'cold'. The 30 part in the stated SAE rating is when the oil is at operating temp, or 'hot'. This is an over simplification of the SAE ratings but I think it will suffice for the discussion here.

a 5w-30 oil and a 10w-30 oil will have the same viscosity at rated operating temps. A 10w-40 or a 20w-50 will have higher viscosities at operating temps than a -30 rated oil.

I used to run 20-50 in my race car and it was like water lol. But in this car I run 5-30 synthetic mobil one. I have though about changing to german castrol 0W that everyone says they love but I cant find any around here so sticking with mobil one synthetic for now.

i beleive 5-30 motorcraft synthetic blend for 96-98 dohc is recommended by ford, 5-20 motorcraft synthetic blend for 99+ dohc.

just went to autozone 5 quart jug of mobil1 senthetic and an m1-210 mobil1 filter for 29 bucks limit 2 per customer so i got 2:rockon: the filters are 12-13 bucks alone and the single quart are 6.99

I got 10 qts of oil and 2 of the filters for $60 bucks
