Any skills need it, to not burn the paint?

Buy the SP7336 from Lowe's. You aren't going to burn the paint either. It is going to be a bit of a learning curve, but you'll get it.

OK, I've been researching this to make sure I am getting the one I want...
Some people list the 7336 as the one of choice, while others the 7424... I understand the only diff is the outfitting, but is the counterweight in the 7424 the one everyone is using? So the 7424 is a good to go setup with the exception of pads right? Thanks.

The best place to get a PC 7336 is at Lowes. I just bought one there for $99.
It is really difficult to damage your paint with a dual action polisher. Rotary buffers can more easily damage paint because they operate at a lot higher rpm. Check out the autopia forums, there is a TON of great info on proper car care. They also have a free download that explains the difference in polishes, waxes, etc...

hope this helps..

Ditto on the autopia. The one at lowes is exactly the same as the 7424 that they are talking about. The only difference is what they come with I believe. I've had mine for over 2 years and have bought several pads for it, works great, and takes a ton of work out of the process. I have checked my paint several times while using it to see if I was building up any heat and I can honestly say that I've never seen where it had. My cars wouldn't look anywhere as good as they do if it wasn't for this little tool. The pad included with it is okay, but once you get some better ones you'll see the difference.

what kind of pads should you buy with the kit? I need to get some spots off the wife's car and am looking in to purchasing one, just need to know the other accessories

There are a TON of pads out there, and I was really confused when I started looking too. I ended up going with a kit so I knew I had the right polishes with the right pads: clicky
with these polishes: clicky again

It worked wonders on my black explorer.

For the record, here is everything I used:

Wash
Clay
Wash again
SFX-1 (yellow pad)
SFX-2 (white pad)
SFX-3 (blue pad)
I wish I would have added some Klasse AIO here, but i got lazy.
S100 (P21S in a different label) Wax
