I know we have beaten oil to hell and Cobra'03 has very detailed explain to us the difference. Thank you allot for sharing your knowledge on this. But what about the oil filter to use. I was at the store yesterday and was going to buy the Ford one and started looking at the K&N one and it looked allot better. Does anybody know which filter is the best to use?

This is one of those questions where you will get the best answers by searching on Google, and Stang forums like Stangnet. It pays to do your own homework, I searched on google and found this:

Otherwise, you will get the usual responses: "I use this one". "Motorcraft will protect your warranty". blah blah blah.

Oil filter factors:
1) Quality of media and filtering efficiency
2) Capacity'
3) Case strength
4) Drainback valve quality
5) PSI bypass value conformity to factory spec
6) End seal construction
7) Resistance to fracture (syn media and glass better here)
8) sealing gasket or o-ring quality

The Motorcraft is a good filter and priced well to boot. It appears to be a Purolator One, which is a mid to upper grade filter based on media (filter material). And it is sure to provide the proper oil pressure modulation.

K&N filters - for racing use - strong case - can be wrenched off fast - but i HAVE HAD TWO IN THE GARAGE FOR YEARS, HAVING OPENED ONE AND BEEN DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THE MEDIA (sorry hit caps key too lazy to retype).

The Mobil 1 filter is very high quality, with strong case, end seals, drainback valve rubber quality, etc. Media is a synthetic fiber and glass - it will resist shgredding, which is a filter problem not often discussed but very real.

Amsoil filters are similar in quality to Mobil 1. I have a few I am evaluating.

Fram has become garbage. Purolators are very good, esp. Piuro One. Napa are decent.

It is important that any filter considered have the same psi rating for the bypass valve - if it is not the same, you can have oil starvation under WOT. The valve also modulates oil pressure throughout the range.

For the technically inclined, here is some great reading:
