Thought I would share and see what everyone thinks. First time at the track this year. Had trouble with the launch, couldn't manage anything better than a 1.67 60ft... Car is running 17psi, tuned for 94 octane and sees 20deg of timing with 11.7 AFR. For some reason, it ran in the 12.2-12.3 range on one run and trapped 130.2mph, which is 3mph faster than my otherwise best that day ! :dw: Is it really making that much more power with a leaner mixture ?

What's everyone running with their 2.3 Whipple at 17spi on pump gas ?

Should I just move on to the 3.0" / 21psi pulley or extract the most out of this setup ? Big difference between both ?

Thanks for your input !

Edit: Friend just sent me a link of my best run of that day

LOL our numbers are almost identical. I am running a 3.00 pulley and only seeing 16.50 PSI  but only 18* of timing. My best time is 11.33 @ 130 with a 1.76 60ft (on 18" nittos DR's).

Congrats on the time. 10's are a better 60' away!

Well, I don't have any dyno numbers as the car is tuned on the track. The 570 / 540 is estimated. I also have a 4# lower which explains why I'm seeing 17psi with the 3.5" upper. Are you running 18* on 93 octane ?

What are you running for tires?

I'm also running 16-17 psi on a 2.3 whipple. I've run a best of an 11.40@122 on 325/50/15 et streets w/ a 1.69 sixty. First time ever in the car on the track so seat time would help my time. Car has run a best of 10.78@128 on actual slicks. My car made right under 580 on a dynojet 17* of timing for 92 octane. Maintains low 11's afr through the rev range.

Your trap indicates higher-10's should not be a problem.

Running 26 x 11.5 x 16 ET Streets. Was dropping the clutch at 5500RPM and the car would almost die so there's a lot more traction left in 'em ! Installing the 2 step and launching at full boost my next time at the track. We'll see if the engine can over power the tires :rolling:

Thats a good time / mph - congrats. Also 1.67 isn't too bad at all.

Oh LOL that explains a lot... I missed the 4# lower.

We don't get 93 here in my part of Alberta, I run Mohawk 94 and A/F is around 11.3.

Pretty good guess on numbers!

Ahahaha, trust me, the ET Streets hook better than the QTP, which is expected considering they're 2" wider. The additional traction gave me some trouble on the launch as I have an aluminium flywheel and a heavy car so I might have to raise my launch RPM or increase my tire pressure. Will definitely try it out next time out !

Thanks, bet it will easily go 10s once I figure out the launch. IRS upgrades include BilletFlow brace, urethane subframe bushings and aluminium diff bushing kit. Still running stock half-shafts
