Windsor Swap

First off, I searched and couldn't find any definitive answers. I found a 4 cylinder LX coupe for dirt cheap and I figured a Windsor in a Fox would be cool as hell. So my first question is, what all would I need to replace besides the rear end? I know motor mounts are advisable, but will the AOD bolt right up for cost effincency for the beginning of the project? I'm pretty sure for every question you guys answer I'll come up with 10 more, so thanks for the help in advance.

Also I found a 9" out of an F-150. Would this work with a C6 automatic? How much does a typical C6 rebuild cost? Will a C6 bolt up to a 351?

i would go with a C4 or a T5, etc.. this isn't the place for fox body mustangs(79-93) IMO, check out stangnet.com or foureyedpride.com if your car is a 79-86, there is TONS of info on these sites, i have done the 351w swap myself, the basics you need are:V8 motor mounts, 351w swap headers-BBK, 351w swap oil pan, dip stick, dip stick tube(all from ford racing or aftermarket kit), 28oz imbalance flywheel, etc......it can be done but you should know what you're getting into, so check out those sites, please!

and you dont want a 9", use an 86+ V8 mustang rear axle, also known as an 8.8"..it's plenty strong for 500HP with simple upgrades, not to mention it's a bolt in affair. Dont forget about upgrading your brakes, suspension, upper and lower rear control arms, exhaust, etc...

A c6 is more than overkill for anything below 800rwhp or a street car. Too heavy, gotta make clearance to get it to fit, and it eats up power like candy.

I checked out Stangnet.com in their fox-body swap forum and there was some info, but do you have any more suggestions? Also, will the AOD work with the 351? Or would I be better off to get a C4? I would like to have an overdrive gear but I guess its not that important.

an AOD or C4 will work, they both use the same both pattern(302 and 351 are the same), overdrive is nice and important if you drive on the highway. There are some nice rebuild kits for the AOD to make it stronger so it can handle the 351w, have you thought about going 5 speed with a T5? Good luck and what year is your fox?

I haven't bought it yet, still trying to decide. But its an '88 trunk car with what appears to be a cowl hood spray painted red to match a porno red interior. And it has some kind of aftermarket 10 holes which would offset most of what I'm paying for it. I've thought about T5 but I think that it just won't be strong enough after a while.

Can you point me in the direction of a rebuild kit for the AOD that would make it stronger? All I can find is kits that return it to stock form. And I think in stock form the 351 will :burn: the AOD.

AOD would be my tranny of choice hands down for a true street car. Not knocking the c4, it's a proven transmission by far but I would not be willing to lose overdrive unless it's a race car.
