would a hi-po 2-seater Ford have a negative impact on the Mustang?
Why do you believe a $50K sports car offered by Ford wouldn't affect the sales of a $45K Mustang? Do you not believe there are consumers that would go away from a Mustang to get into a true 2-seater for nearly the same price? The Raptor didn't hurt F-150 sales, because it's a F150. There was a segment of potential buyers that decided to pony up the money to get a fancier F150 (without stepping up to a Limited or Platinum). I believe that if you put a sports car in close price range of a Mustang, the same thing will happen. The consumer will decided to spend the extra money and a Mustang will not be purchased. The GT didn't affect Mustang sales because it was 4X the price. Not nearly equal... Those two cars were meant for two completely different demographics of consumers. Plus, the drop in sales that would have occurred, would barely show up on the map due to such low production numbers on the GT (4,000 units from 2004-2006) Also, why is the Shelby GT500 platform a failed attempt by Ford? Was their plan and business model based off of 25,000 units/year sold? I would have thought that if the platform was a failure, they wouldn't have produced it for 7 years. Not to mention they were battling with a down economy early on. Ten trims for the Mustang? I count five if you don't divide by coupe and convertible. If so, then yes, 10. The F150 is the biggest culprit of too many trims... 10 actually different optioned trucks. Throw in RC, SC, and SCrew and it just gets ridiculous. But hey, they sell, so keep it up Ford.
