XBOX 360 LIVE help plz

I just got a 360 and I was very interested in hooking it up so I can play on XBOX 360 live. However, I have not had the time to sit-down and read what needs to be done in order to hook it up. Can anybody give me some information on accomplishing this? The info I am looking for is...

It's very simple... just hook it up to your router/broadband connection, assuming you have a router that is.

To play against other people, pay the $50 for xbox live 1year. if you dont want to play online you can still download items from the service..
