Hard to see how this does not also impact their ATV and UTV sales in the snow belt.

Yamaha Is Quitting Snowmobiles After 55 Years

Yamaha Is Quitting Snowmobiles After 55 Years
Yamaha Is Quitting Snowmobiles After 55 Years© Yamaha Snowmobiles
Yamaha: for when you want to buy a motorcycle, but also a top-end grand piano. It makes just about everything powersports too, but soon, it won't. That's because it's getting out of the snowmobile game after more than half a century.
Yamaha introduced its first snowmobile in 1968, the two-stroke SL350, using knowledge from its existing small engine businesses. Today, it's one of the biggest names in powersports, selling everything from motorcycles to UTVs, boats, golf carts, jetskis, and more—even EV crate motors. Its snowmobile lineup spans 18 models of varying levels of performance and specialties, and even includes models for children.

But that's all coming to a close after model year 2025. On Wednesday, the company stated that it is "difficult to continue a sustainable business" in snowmobiles, and that it will exit to focus on larger markets, particularly those with room for growth. Yamaha states it will continue to sell snowmobiles through model year 2025, and that it will still honor warranties, offer maintenance and service, and supply parts.

I didn't know they even made snowmobiles. I'm just glad they still make 2-stroke dirt bikes.

They partnered with Arctic Cat for cost sharing and then Arctic Cat got bought by Textron. I suspect Textron didn't want to play ball anymore and Yamaha pulled the plug.

Any powersport, like sleds, that cannot be electrified is in mortal danger.

The only thing they ever had going for them were their engines. Yamaha's chassis/suspension were god awful for so many years. They were the first to go full four stroke and it never really panned out. The others continued to upgrade their two stroke models and they are light years ahead now. Yamaha would need a whole new chassis (been partnered with Arctic Cat and they have a new chassis this year) and introduce another two stroke engine.

I really liked my 05 rx1. People hate on them for weight but it never bothered me. I moved onto to a 16 cat but would have kept the oneton if I had room. Had 6k miles and only ever needed slides, one belt and exhaust donuts. Ran great Still.

IMO Yamaha gave up on sleds years ago. Last gasp was the Apex. Their fate was sealed when the started sticker engineering cats.

IMO Yamaha hasn't made sleds in years. They're all Arctic Cat Chassis. I am a die-hard cat guy too. I do love how the Yamacat's look though. The color options are sweet. Cat (Textron) is going to have to come up with a new 4 stroke engine for the lineup in a few years. Unless Yamaha still wants to develop/make the engine for Cat.

All yamaha sleds from the last handful of years were /are Cat chassis...the only Cats with yamaha power are the 4 stroke thundercats

I have 3 2 stroke yamaha sleds..all yamaha pro action chassis...00 sxr 01 srx, and an 03 viper
