Can't go wrong with a springfield. Also my Rosi .357 has been completely reliable and a great gun for the wife. Actually bought it for my wife, she usually shoots .38's out of it, but it is alot of fun to shoot with the .357's.

Holy Shit that is garbage! That gun is so dayum heavy it aint funny. Think of it this way....if you shoot it..it will blow up in your face and kill you. Now if that's good for a first(and last) gun..by all means...go for it. Save up a little more..and get a real gun.

I'm just a Small Arms Instuctor for my Naval ship..dont listen to me:poke:

i'll buy a more expensive one later on.
so the 40 is the strongest, then 45, then 9mm right?

the 45 is the biggest also.. but if i carry it it'll probably just be in my car. not in my side.

I suggest you take some sort of class as to you have NO CLUE WHAT YOUR DOING OR talking about. When your done and you are fairly smart spend money on a weapon that will work the right way every time not a cheap POS that might work, guess what your dead because your DUMB.:read::read:

If you are in the type of area where you actually need to carry a gun, why are you even in said area?

It doesn't mean he's in a bad area. Things can happen no matter where you are, it's good to be prepared in case something happens.

Kyle (my boyfriend) is applying to get a ccw here in Montana and we really don't have "bad" areas. We both hope he will never have to use his gun, but at least we will be prepared.

First gun? I recommend buying a good quality .357magnum revolver. Why?

1. Safer and more reliable than semi-automatic firearm
2. No safeties to forget or fumble
3. Practice with .38 special ammo, use .357 mag for self-defense

PM sent with links to safety and marksmanship materials I used when teaching.

OMFG this thread hurts my head. OP, please listen to the people in this thread that are much more knowledgeable than you.

OP, you should take a gun safety and basic marksmanship class before you purchase any gun. It's obvious by your posts that you have little to know experience with firearms. The course will be a great investment for you, and most importantly will make your life safer owning an firearm since you wish to concealed carry.

+1 on more education

tyxaloo, your post reminds me of many years ago when I was talked into buying a S&W Escort .22 as a backup gun. It seemed OK, but I was warned it was a finicky gun. Sure enough, the first time I had to use it, the sucker jammed and I ended up literally throwingit at my attacker, hitting him square in the face.

Replaced it the next day with a Colt Cobra .38 Special, which I have to this day.

LMAO, you threw a handgun at someones face! What happened? Was the .22 being used as a primary in the time you had to draw?

didnt read through the whole thread but if your looking for a gun on a budget, you should shop around for police trade ins (if you dont mind them used that is)

edit: i forgot to mention, my vote is also for a glock. some what off topic but i found this to be interesting (i have a glock 21 myself)

Haven't read all the comments in here but im sure this has been said before.

I wouldn't buy any of those cheap shit guns, especially for it being your first gun. Buy something reliable and easy to shoot. Like a Glock 9mm

Another excellent gun is a S&W M&P .40. I have my CCW and it is an awesome firearm. It has a lifetime warranty and it fits perfectly in my hand:

i plan to carry whatever gun i buy concealed with a permit.

i can carry it as long as its completely hidden on me right? so having a holster on my side wouldnt work even if my shirt is covering it? i was gonna look for a holster with straps that will strap around my thigh since i usually wear shorts that are a little bit loose. is there a specific name for them? i found a few that wrap around your shoulder but i dont want one of those. if i plan to hide it then maybe the 9 would be best for me.

Dude...what?

Can you seriously picture yourself reaching up your shorts and digging a gun out of your crotch?
