Well I got bored and got a sample of E85 from the station I use. I put pieces in to see what their reaction will be. I have the test coming in to test what % Ethanol it is.

I put in:
Aeromotive Fuel Filter
Steel fitting with o-ring
Stainless Steel stock fuel tubing
Teflon tape
Brass fittings
Aluminum fittings
Teflon hose with stainless Steel braid around it.
Rubber Fuel line
Teflon tape (instantly turned clear)

Glad to see you didn't fill it all the way to the top. It's not realistic to have a tank full of e85 at all times like people are suggesting

I have seen this done before. It will be interesting to see what you come up with Josh.

Did you test the Ethanol Content?

can you somehow attatch a piece of aluminum to the top of the jar above the e85? Sort of like how the pump assembly sits when the tank is only partly filled

This gives me an idea. I think I see another SVTP test in the near future. Time to flex my rarely used chemistry degree.

i guess it's not a good idea to run E-85 ,if my car only gets driven say a dozen times a year ? ? and under say 2000 miles in that time if that.

what is the price of e 85 ?
compared to 93 gas right now ..

gas by me is

87 oct - 3.25
89 oct - 3.35
93 oct - 3.50

E85 oct - 2.75

on a 14 gallon car thats a savings of 11.5 per fill up and being able to run a higher oct (e85) ;-) win/win for e85

not sure what gas is here right now but not long ago it was 3.28 for 93
only 1 e -85 gas station about 4 miles from me. i looked for some in MS/AL/FL also cause i go they sometimes and would need to fill up to get back home.
i can get 290 miles then low fuel light comes on.
i'am wondering how E-85 would compare on the same highway trip ?
anyone with mods like me ..let me know if differance.

i seen the post on e-85 ate my pumps up ..dont think it would good idea for me or not ?

In my experience - highway only cruising in 6th around 60-65, I got about 25% lower mileage compared to what the EPA numbers are for my car.

Why would anyone use E85 for a long trip when a simple fill up of 93 and a flip of the tune is so easy? Running max boost all the time will limit the enjoyment you get out of the car.

If I were to do this I would have multiple boost levels available to use.
Low boost Open Track and street gas(93).
Low boost Open Track E85(ultimate detonation suppression for HOT HOT lapping).
High boost Shoot Out E85. Obviously this is still street-able and If I bring my belt, pulley, tools and handheld I can go anywhere I want.
Most if not all handhelds have multiple tune slots.

The high octane is not the only draw for me, the flexibility is also extremely attractive, and does not seem that tough to pull off.

I think a lot of people think you are stuck with E85 only, and that does not have to be the case.

Is there a test for moisture content yet?
There is no really easy way to test for moisture Jimmy. Best bet is ifg you feel the source you are getting your fuel from does not havethe proper storage tank, the add 1/2 oz of Stabil to each 5 gallons of E85 to neutralize the acid from the water.

What do you have cookin' Boss? :pop:

good idea, hopefully this will put some myths about e85 to bed
I have a feeling we will be waiting a LONG TIME................

Why would it not be good to run? That's about how much I drive my car.

Why compare inferior 93 to E85. You can't really compare IMO. E85 is $2.34 here and 93 is around $3.19

Depends on the tune. I have seen anywhere between 10-25% less depending on the tune

Why? Ethanol is NOT Corrosive! Ethanol with water = higher acidic content. Most of the water is introduced from a fuel station with a poor tank. (Could even happen with gasoline)

I bet with a little more fine tuning you could lower that even more.
