Hey guys I've sold the cobra a while back and am looking to get in to a 5.0. I have three kids so I'm gonna have to watch what I spend. I would be happy with a base model but have heard different things that people don't like. I know the steering wheel sucks. Do they make an aftermarket one? The cloth seats are fine with me, but let me know what you think. The brembos would be nice but not necessary for me. Some have said the suspension is upgraded with them, is that true? If some of you with a base model 2011 could tell me how you like it and the specific areas above, I would appreciate it. I'd love to see some pics, especially the interior. Thanks bros!

Steering wheel sucks, base stereo system sucks. Thats it.

All 2011 mustangs are said to be like the 2010 mustang with track package.

The 2011 with brembos are said to have some different suspension setup that is even better.

Regular Mustangs come with 235 all season pirelli p-zeros. Brembos come with more expensive 255 SUMMER pirellis p-zeros, and much nicer 19" lobster claw rims.

You can choose from many options for steering wheel,

Premium leather steering wheel 180 on tousley
GT500 leather/suede steering wheel 340 on tousley
Grant/Roush Steering wheels ~500
Older GT500 steering wheel not sure of the price
Older Leather steering wheels not sure of the price
Wheel Skin leather wrapping ~$50

as for stereo.. well you can go as expensive as you want
I spent about $400 on two front components, 10" sub, all wiring and etc.

The seats are just fine, however, I went ahead and changed them out for some stock take offs from a ford dealership on Ebay because I couldn't beat the price, I got them for $295.00 and I installed it myself with no prior experience and it looks perfect. I got a double din GPS/DVD/MP3/Bluetooth with USB head unit wth a metra dash kit for 700 bucks installed. I think I might do an amp and some speakers & sub next. My old mach 460 that was in my 04cobra would kill a base 2011 stereo. The car was too quiet so I put on a Roush axle back for $374 on Ebay, and it sounds really good with no drone or rattle can pop like Borla. I like the idea of changing the steering wheel out. although being blacked out does look good in its own way.

I did a Brembo base car with 3.73 gear. For me I hate leather seats, I dont need to talk to my car so why pay near $6,000 for that.

I did a Bullitt wheel from the 08s but any 05-09 GT would work.
Im also doing the Kicker Shelby upgrade.
Another thing to think about is resale IMHO it will hard to recover the cost of all the extra BS.

Steering wheel isnt that bad but just looks cheap, I picked up a bullet wheel (just like the 07-09 GT500 wheel without the red stitching) and will swap it out eventually.

Honestly the base stereo isnt that bad sound wise, I think the shaker500 with NAV in my old 2010 was pretty crappy sounding. Only thing I wanted was sat radio, a 40.00 XM snap radio in the console plugged into the aux jack works just fine for me.

Seats are fine, mine has the stone and it brightens up the interior some, I'll wait and see how well it wears but its comfortable enough.

I like the base green lighting on the cluster, but I'm old and not a big fan of the mycolor or ambient lighting either. Matter of fact I like the whole feel of the base interior, reminds me more of true musclecar. Its nicer than I thought it would be and it has a good standard set of options, but I have a few other fully loaded/leather/nav cars so I picked the base GT as a good contrast to those. If it was my only car I'd probably go for the premium.

Thanks guys! The interior looks good to me. That 08 steering wheel..is that out of a used car, or do they manufacture them for the aftermarket? That looks new? This won't be a daily driver, I would put a supecharger in it to make a mean street car to take to gatherings and car meets. My 04 only had 5k miles on it and I sold it last summer so this base model seems perfect to enjoy on the weekends like my old one. Is it confirmed though that the Brembo package comes with More suspension goodies? Thanks again

I've read in some places the Brembo cars have some different suspension parts, and read in other places they dont. I do more drag racing so I could care less about the brembo package, but IMO its worth it for the wheels and tires if you will never drive in the snow.

I bought the bullet wheel new (370.00), they sell the GT500 wheel and the Bullet new, not cheap though. Just have to swap the cruise buttons over. Honestly after driving the car for a while I should have just left the stock wheel, its really not that bad once you get used to it.

^^^^ Your car is a 'Premium GT, he wanted pics of the 'Base' GT.

Here is a pic of my 'Base' GT interior. I changed the steering wheel out with a brand new '10 Shelby GT500 wheel and got a shifter knob from grabberpony.com.

I love my 'Base' GT!!

Texas is the best..
Honestly OP, if I could do it again, I'd gone base.. They really are very nice plus unless you have to have the high tech stuff, the standard equipment is fine. Only reason I say this is because I actually prefer the feel of the cloth seats to the leather.. But the wife insisted on the Sync and extra crap that comes with the premium.. It's all nice, but not really nessesary..

I have syc in my f-150 that I drive every day. It is nice but I don't think I'd hear it in a mustang as load as I like the exhaust. I'll be ordering a base model with 3.73's i think. Probably spring for a 2012 model.

Thanks

The steering wheel is a very simple 10 minute installation after I let the car sit for about an hour with the battery disconnected. It is a VERY nice and 'solid' feeling steering wheel.

How much did that wheel set you back? BTW, man did I go through some withdrawls this weekend at the Silver Springs Mustang Round Up!! Almost 1000 cars were in attendance, less than 10 Terminators, and NO CO's....
