Also you had to buy into the forum (20 bucks) to use the fs section. Skin in the game is a wonderful thing. Reason why the founding fathers required voters to be property owners.

LOL! Not even close to the reason why you had to be a land owner to vote, might want to brush up on your history.

But yeah, scammers suck.

Well seller refunded my money thru PayPal so that's all said and done, still not a word from him though, which is kind of strange. I agree with the above that a photo of the part should be required if nothing else for high dollar items (say 500 and above) I don't see how that could hurt anything.

edit to add: he did infact say on the refund there was some personal stuff he was dealing with and that he was very sorry for the whole ordeal. I somehow missed the message at first.

Glad you got your money back but I'm sure it is just because you fought it. It is a shame that there are sellers out there that are like that.

In your case having a photo of the item really wouldn't have helped. A photo only proves the part exists. It won't prevent someone from taking your money and not sending the part. And usually the seller has some reason or excuse why the buyer didn't get the part. Ie. health or job issues, money issues, away on vacation, etc. Sometimes the reason is legitimate, and sometimes it isn't. The bottom line is that scammers are going to scam. And problems on both sides are going to come up. Sometimes an item doesn't get sent out in a timely manner for a legitimate reason. But if the seller doesn't communicate with the buyer, misunderstandings, frustrations and anger can be the result. Good communication on both sides is vital for there to be a satisfactory conclusion to the transaction when an issue arises. Unfortunately, some just choose not to communicate, and that can open the door to a transaction nightmare.

Bear in mind that due to the huge popularity of this site, the number of daily for-sale threads is extremely high. No Market forum is going to be perfect, and the larger it is the higher the likelihood there will be issues between buyer and seller. How frequent the seller posts, how long he or she has been a member, and their Trader Rating should be considered when buying anything from a member. If you don't know the seller and are not comfortable with them based on the above info, then buy from someone you're more comfortable with. Even if the item is rare and you need it. Same advice would apply to buying on Craig's List.

Oh, and use the Trader Rating feedback system with EVERY transaction, good and bad.

No hard feelings bud, seems like it was just a misunderstanding. Thanks for refunding my money.

The trader rating on here is very helpful. And pic of the part with username and date is helpful.

What I have done in the past on higher dollar deal is this:

1. Got real phone and address from seller.
2. Had seller take pic of item in shipping box and text to me.
3. I paypal half of dollar amount (this was a $500 item)
4. Once seller had package ready for shipment including tracking number, seller texted me pic of both tracking number and tracking number on box
5. Once item showed up in system, I then sent the balance of money owed.

Yes, a bit of a PITA for the seller, but not really. Forces the seller to spend prob an extra five minutes and a few texts, which is pretty reasonable I think.

A scammer won't go through all the trouble to do that, they'll give excuses, etc.

And yes, I've had sellers refuse to do it, and not be scammers. But I felt safer, that is for sure. And there are always deals to be had out there. Patience is the key to finding the same deal again.
