Got the notice today that my retirement was approved for 1 May next year.

This will be 30 years of active duty. With my terminal and permissive leave, my last day at work will be in January sometime.

My retirement ceremony will be in January or February.

I can't believe how fast time has passed. I will be 48 years old next month and have 30 years in one career down. Don't know what I will do with myself after I leave the military, its all I have ever known my adult life...enlisted at 17 years old. Guess I will find me some easy civilian job so I can concentrate on my hobby--mustangs.  With 75% of my base retirement pay as a Chief and VA Disability, I will be looking for a low stress job...won't need a lot of money.

Wow...it has just went so fast...

Very cool! Grats chief! Though I have a very good career with great pay I regret leaving the military. Was the best 6 years of my life.

'Grats Chief!

Here's one for you. We used to have a poster that read this in my old squadron:

GENERAL:
Leaps tall buildings with a single bound, is more powerful than a locomotive, is faster than a speeding bullet, walks on water amid typhoons, gives policy to God.

COLONEL:
Leaps short buildings with a single bound, is more powerful than a switch engine, is just as fast as a speeding bullet, walks on water if sea is calm, talks to God.

LT. COLONEL:
Leaps short buildings with a running start and favorable winds, is almost as powerful as a switch engine, is faster than a speeding BB, walks on water in indoor swimming pool, talks to God if personnel action form is approved.

MAJOR:
Barely clears Quonset hut, loses tug-of-war with switch-engine, can fire a speeding bullet, swims well, is occasionally addressed by God.

CAPTAIN:
Makes high marks by trying to leap buildings, is run over by locomotive, can sometimes handle a gun without inflicting self injury, dog paddles, talks to animals.

1ST LIEUTENANT:
Runs into buildings, recognizes locomotives two out of three times, is not issued ammunition, can stay afloat if properly instructed in the Mae-West, talks to walls.

2ND LIEUTENANT:
Falls over doorstep when trying to enter buildings, says look at the Choo-Choo, wets himself, plays in mud puddles, mumbles to himself.

CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT
Lifts tall buildings and walks under them, kicks locomotives off the tracks, catches speeding bullets in his teeth and eats them, freezes water with a single glance, HE IS GOD.

Congrats Chief! Well done. Four days ago marked my 1 year of being retired after 30-years also. You will miss your AF Family and like me read the AF Times each week to stay in touch.
It not too early to get a solid resume ready. I was hired and started during my terminal. Companies struggle to find solid leadership and if you want to find a good position...it will not be a problem.
I used CareerProGlobal to assist me with a military to civilian transition resume. If cooperate America was looking for 30-lines on a 1206...I could have done it myself, but finding the correct language HR folks look for was not my specialty. I was put in touch with a retired O-6 pilot-type who understood all my EPRs, Award/Dec, and Education and provided me one heck of a product Worth the investment and landed me a position well into 6 figures.

Lastly....have a blast with the time you got and keep on helping our Airmen!

I can relate I start term leave in Sept, retire 1 Dec. MOving to Savannah and gonna just keep busy with college and do something low stress as well. Only reason I want a decent paying job is to keep the "pipedreams" alive when it comes to my cars.

Congrats and yes it does go by fast and I only have 21 years.

FlahDah man.
I will be 1 year behind you. Same situation. May look at some of the vocational opportunities in school the VA offers. Become a full time student for 4 years or so.

That's awesome.

I was done after 4 years in the Marines. They treat their people too much like dirt for me to last that long.
