So what can the police do to you if your caught at speeds upwards of 140 mph?

I got away 1 time in my mustang, i was coming home from work about 10 pm and i was on a two lane road speed limit 50 mph it was 1.5 miles before i have to turn right to my development. There were no other cars on the road for the full 1.5 miles until my turn off. I got on it doing about 120 mph i never saw the cop who was on the other side of the highway going the opposite direction. I had slowed down to make my right turn and i merged into traffic about 5 other cars. When i came to my stop sign i could see lights in the background about 4 cars back. I could see the cop pulled a car over thinking it was him that was speeding, I saw it all in my rear view i just continued home and considered myself lucky! Apparently I was going so fast when i passed him he couldn't tell what kinda of car that was speeding, and if it wasn't for the traffic i merged with i would have been busted!

If IIRC, in TX, its 25 mph over posted limit and bye bye you go!

In Texas you cannot be arrested for speeding. It's the judge you will have to worry about.

Also back when I was young and dumb I got caught doing 120 in a 60 and I drove away with a ticket. I showed up to court and the cop that pulled me over left the force, so I got lucky.

You can't outrun the radio....

Sure you can ... There HAS to be a responding officer ahead, if not, you're green to GO. Outran through 4-5 cities with a 5.0 when I was a kid (20 years ago). And these were towns/cities that you didn't do 5mph over in. Just takes balls. Don't think about the cherries and berries. Ahhhh, the 90's ...…

Anyhow, 20 years later (now I'm a middle aged family man), I've just gotten off the rockets (20-25 years on 2 wheels and only a broken arm and wrist) when my oldest was born. Got out with my life before something happened. Saw my childhood friend get KILLED, DEAD. Everyone started getting killed on bikes, I just got my "good job", married, child, and built a house. Was time to give it up. Matter of fact when I was building my house I was on the way there from my condo to paint, witnessed a fatal Harley accident @ 8:30am on a beautiful spring, Saturday morning. That was the absolute last straw after seeing 3-4 "fatals" before first responders. It's good for your sole, shows what your heart and intelligence is made of. It's quite a overwhelming helpless feeling. Fast forward 10 years: My buddy was selling some high dollar chainsaws on Craigslist and a huge gorilla of a dude was there, ended up being a chief or something (high ranking) of a local PD. I was there in my 03, asked him: "what would you do if a car like this went by you @ 120-140++, etc.). Now, I did mention a LOW traffic, outside of most city limits local highway. His response: "NOTHING. As long as you didn't rob a old woman or convince store. Said his guys have approx 60 seconds to report and receive permission to pursue". Said "it's you VS the deer, go for it. I'm not going to jeopardize one of my guys lives, taxpayers cruiser, deter your concentration, etc". Cool dude, but realistic. I'm no way shape or form condoning what we all are guilty of, however I try to put myself in the best "controlled environment" possible and assume the risks. And honestly, if doing 120+ close to home! I'm not stopping. Did it once, neighbor KID (24) has a hard on for me, wife, or car (?) ... Said to myself "I'm making you follow me home ******". He knew me, and I knew him (I live in sticks). Anyhow, wife is a attorney, think I walked out of that eluding charge with a 20 dollar equipment violation.

No point to all of this really except every situation is different. Use your best judgement. Remember, they supposedly need permission to pursue, and take all other factors into consideration. I think where you do it, time of day, and traffic flow plays a role in officers decision. Even that chief I talked to said: if you decided to lay in it and hold it, I can't catch you, not jeopardizing civilians, tax payers cruiser, and of course the life of his patrolman.

Would I stop (because we all know what we do from time to time) ? .... Depends. Just depends on location and circumstances. I'll leave it at that.

Back to original topic: can the radio be outran ? .... EASILY ! If there's no officer in front of you, you've just outran the radio .... Been there, done that.

Again, depends on where you are I guess. There are no towns and cities here like you're describing. In the county I live in there are a few smaller police departments but we have county sheriff's that run most of the county and few large city departments like Clearwater and St. Pete.

Twenty years ago? I thought we were talking about now. Hell, I could bring up the stories my dad used to tell me about when there was only 4 cops in this area and they'd pass them while they were on their way to the spot that my dad was just racing at. I'm middle aged too, as much as I hate to admit it.

Sure, it's possible to out run, but not likely. When you live in sprawling metropolis areas you have more than just yourself and the person chasing you to worry about.

It's definitely stupid to run from the cops, but considering what will happen if you stop anyway... I'll take my chances, theoretically speaking.

I don't participate in high speed competitions anymore though. My next ticket will probably be for going way too fast in a corner, if there's such an infraction.

There's a difference between running and evading if the cop has to come from the other side of the highway, then you evade when possible, but if he's on the same side of the road pull right over!

tell you what there sport. how about you put that to the test ... do it twice, once running and the other "evading' let us know if the charges are different

I could have pulled over in the close call i mentioned previously, but i was lucky enough to evade capture, I never had to run, all i had to do is blend into traffic. Fine was zero!
If I would have panicked and tried to run i would have got busted= jail....see the difference now! When I'm speeding and i pass a cop who is on the other side of median divided highway and i see him pull out after i pass, i start evading right away...that has happened to me quite a few times and they never got me because they thought i didn't see him pull out. His plan was to sneak up and pull me over. When he got there i was already off ramp going the opposite direction! Never ran just evaded!

I'm pretty sure that in Florida, anything 30 and over is a felony...I may be wrong. But I agree, there's a lot of stupid in this thread. :bash: Running from the cops is dumb and you're just putting yourself and the other people on the road at risk, not to mention the trouble you'd be in if you fail to evade the cops

My brother got clocked doing 145 in a 55 in my old '06 GT while I was in the car. He got a mandatory court date and the judge threw him in jail for the weekend (on top of the usual fine). My brother often talks about what an unpleasant experience that was.

I once got busted for doing 142 in a 75 in my old '00 Lightning over a decade ago. The HP was nice and wrote the ticket for 99 MPH. Around that same time, I evaded one HP in the same Lightning and one city cop in my girlfriend's '97 GT. The HP was sitting in the median when I passed him going 120+. I saw him pull out and I just kept going until I pulled off the highway a couple of exits up. Hid under an overpass and he went right passed me. The city cop saw me do a little drift around a corner in the Mustang. When I saw him start to turn around I just took off and ducked into an alley around the corner. He never saw me.

As I said, all of this was over a decade ago. I have more to lose now and after 39 traffic tickets, I haven't had a citation in at least 8 years.

The other day i was in my suv, because i never drive my stang in rainy weather, and i got nabbed for failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. The ticket for such a small infraction was a healthy $189.00. But no points if i pay it on time!

Ask for a court date and hope the cop doesn't show.

I've always heard it's not running if they aren't behind you. So going WOT after passing a cop and taking the next exit isn't a felony if caught later?

I had a dream once that I was on the first leg of power tour this year. Buddy and I were on a nice straight highway with about 1/2 mile of nothing in front of us before the other 'powertourer's". We decided to go for it. I was in my '12 5.0, we honked it off at 70 and I pulled all the way to the top of 4th before letting out (due to me soundly beating my buddy and pulling up hard on the rest of the 'tour in front of us) A black charger came hauling ass up behind us. We thought he wanted to play. he didn't... :nonono: lol the LEO walked up to my car "You didn't see me back there, did you boy?" I'm thinking shit, i'm going to jail on the first day of power tour... again no , he gave both of us a warning and politely asked us to keep the speed down in never never land. Again, this was a dream, none of these events in any way happened, ever.

I saved the warning, luckiest day of my dream life.

All of you people that are going to run remember this, if anything happens to the LEO trying to catch you, they will be coming after you for it. And if you think a citizen or license plate reader in the area didnt see you flying down the interstate and either get your plate, or even watch where you went, ie your house, you may have another coming. Chances of all above happening may be slim, but I wouldnt take my chances.

As already stated, if you are going double/triple the speed limit, and you see/know a cop is going to go after you, you might as well keep going. You get bent over raw if pulled over. Yes, the consequences COULD be much worse once everybody starts throwing "ifs" around. If you crash, if you kill someone, if you get caught after running, if, if, if. The reality is that the vast majority of the time, people who elude in high performance vehicles, get away. Most officers don't like to admit that.
