seems like alot of people here are doing converter swaps before gear swap. any particular reason.
I just swapped over to an auto, so im being a little nosey.
seems like stock converters and some 4.10s would be the ticket. is that not a good start on these cars?

In my opinion anything over 3.31s is a waste. Time and time again and test after test I have not seen any more gear go any faster at the track. The converter on the other hand is the way to go!

3.15 with my 26" tall DR and adding a Circle D 5C I dropped 4 tenths. 11.90's to 11.50's and of course that was with a Mike Rousch tune.

Figure with a off road, converter, a good set of tires and a good tune 11.7-11.8s is about the norm. Of course it will be faster in good air.

Hey man, I will PM you with the details on the tuning. I know it is hard to understand that gears just do not help these cars. I had to prove it to myself to. Last year we tried going from stock to 4.10s the same day at the track. It was worth nothing, Believe me i tried everything i could to get the 4.10s to run better.

Can't go wrong with Mike's tune! I don't ever plan on doing a converter but might do a 3.31 gear swap for a small bit of help. Everything I have read says the 3.31 is the best gear for the auto.. pretty much what Mike said!

Totally different animals so it may not be relevant, but i just got my GF some 3.31's for her V6 auto and was kicking myself for not going 3.55 or 3.73. Glad to hear the 3.31 (for the most part) seems to work in the autos. She mostly just dailys it, so anythings gotta be better than the god awful 2.73s haha.

I have 2.73s in my 6r80 car with a 28" tire. 1500rpm launch nets 1.4-1.5 60fts all day long. :)

haha, your car also comes with 140 more horsepower stock, and something tells me you aren't stock ;)

I know it's not a good comparison, but it still shocks the hell out of me that my car does what it does with 2.73s. "Don't fear the gear" days are gone! LOL

Mike...

Just curious when you switched to 4.10 in your test runs what were you running? Have you tuned anyone else that has 4.10's on here? I went to 4.10's late last year and its a blast to drive even though like you said it really didn't gain me much of anything at the track.
