I'm a medical student and our virology professor briefly spoke to us about this today. I'll try to paraphrase what he said.

1. The best thing about Ebola is that it is incredibly deadly, which really minimizes its ability to spread.
2. The medical system in the US is obviously much better than that in West Africa, and will do a much better job containing the spread.
3. We will NOT see an outbreak like they did in Africa.
4. He isn't worried, so I'm not worried. (And he's paranoid as hell).

Just have to hope none of the kids this guy was in contact with were infected and that they in turn didn't bring it to school.

I've heard rumors of purposely infecting California with it...

Here in DFW, the media seems to be in a "this is what you need to look out for" "these people may have come in contact with the ebola patient" mode. At least that's all the articles and crap I see on Facebook. I don't watch the news much on TV.

The national media is making it sound as if it is a sinus infection.

Remember the scene from The Naked Gun when the car crashes into the fireworks factory and Frank tells everyone that there's nothing to see here? CNN seems to be taking that approach.

IDK about you but if there is a contagious incurable disease coming from Africa, I might give it some attention.

Keep allowing people to enter our country after they've been prancing around third world Africa! What a government we have in the states!

Doesnt sound incurable to me.

It sounds pretty shitty but if you have a strong immune system and good healthcare, you are probably far and wide doing better than those in the 3rd world countries spreading it like wildfire.

Did you go as far as reading page two from your webmd link where someone was given a dose of the experimental agent yet still died?

I also read “They are the very first individuals to ever receive this agent,” he said. “Frankly, we do not know if it helped them, if it made no difference, or even, theoretically, if it delayed their recovery.” That was speaking of the two dumb Americans who went over to Africa yet still caught the disease and put many people in jeopardy by returning home for treatment.

I'm not an M.D. but I'll listen to the professionals when they say there isn't a cure as in a shot or pill that makes everything go away.

How willing are you to touch some blood or puke from one infected with Ebola? I wouldn't either.

We need to infect ISIS with Ebola and whelp I think our problems would be solved.
We are too ethical to infect the innocent population over there that ISIS hides amongst with something as horrific as Ebola in an attempt to eradicate those bastards. Sadly, they would/will love to send it over here. Ebola + Euro/US nationals in the ISIS ranks + easy entry into the US = Not Good. Why do you think our government is suddenly so interested in developing a treatment/vaccine or cure? They are quietly, but deeply, concerned about this threat.

Considering the only way to contact it is through bodily fluids, ugh, no. That's pretty much what I'll avoid from now on. If anyone I know is sick from now on they're pretty much on their own with cleanup.

Just because it's survivable doesn't mean I care to contract it.

only a texas hospital could **** up a situation as blatant as a patient exhibiting ebola like symptoms who just told them he had just been in an ebola ravaged country :nonono:

I agree completely about fluids.

You tried correcting me when I said it is incurable which, thus far, is true. Survivable is different than curable, right?

The dude had just carried someone who had Ebola a day before he left Liberia. That person died the very next day. His sorry ass knew what the hell he was doing. He even lied on the screening forms at the airport.

I still remember when the media was saying one in 6 would have the HIV in 5 years (like 20 years ago)

Better chance of getting hit by lightning, or hit BY a Lightning.

Yawn, don't lick or bugger strange stuff, you will be fine.

The CDC and the Federal government are well aware of what's happening in Africa. Hell, weren't a few thousand military sent to help with Ebola? Knowing what's going on they don't take precautions when people are coming to the U.S.A. from that dump? Really?

To the guy above me: Some media is reporting something as minor as a cough or sneeze can spread it. Think about how times you go out in public and people don't cover their mouths or noses or both when this happens. I like to embarrass people who do this. Call them out on their ignorance and selfishness.
