Hello all, so I received my GM 26 spline input shaft that was machined to ford specs.

When I put it in and tightened up a couple of trans case bolts it was pretty hard to spin. The more bolts I tightened up the harder it was to spin. This wasn't the case with the 10 spline shaft.

So I measured them and....

Is this normal?

Thanks

The splines on the shafts look considerably different as far as length up the shaft as well as taper angles. Maybe those are causing an internal bind? Just curious here, but why not just buy a quality 26 spline shaft instead of having one machined from a Government Motors part?

You're saying with the input shaft installed but the transmission not installed the shaft is hard to spin? if so you need to remove shims.

I was thinking about going with one of these modified shafts but was afraid that the splines where the clutch go wouldn't be long enough after being machined, as I have no idea how much they take off the end.

That's super shitty man. I'm happy I found the right one even tho it was double the price. Hopefully the shims being taken out work or post a wanted ad like I did. Good Luck

This is a pic of my new Tremec 26 spline. It's the only one have right now cause it's from the seller but by tomorrow afternoon I'll have it and could send more or measure it if you need.

It wasn't spinning even without shims. Turns out the retainer sleeve went in a little to the left. Took it out and put it back in and it spins freely right now. The length of the shaft is still worrying me tho.

I guess ill find out today when I bolt everything up

Is this from that shop texas something? Selling modified GM input shafts for the cobra's? I was getting ready to order one for my cobra, but after seeing this I doubt I'll order one.

If you could get some good measurements of the shaft that would be awesome. Maybe one from the gear face to the start of the splines. Then one from the gear face to the end of the splines. Then maybe one from the gear face to the end of the shaft.

Yes this is an input shaft from Texas Driveline, Jason is great guy to deal with and his customer service was second to none when he was helping me out with the shaft. Lets not jump to conclusions, the shaft not spinning was an installation error on my part. I am a novice mechanic that is learning new things as I go. I will give Jason the benefit of the doubt, he is a great guy and is a transmission expert. I was just wondering why it was a bit longer.

As soon as I fix my stripped adapter ring thread I will throw the tranny in and we will see how it works.

I'm more skeptical on the different lengths, but please do report back once you have it installed. If it works, I'll move foward and order one.

A friend Waffleman told me he called Tremec and they gave him the number for a Dederich motorsports and said they make 26 spline input shafts for Cobras. He went ahead and ordered 2 of them, one for the each of us and when we get them in we'll let you know. I never spoke to Dederich so I can't say if its an all new shaft or a modified Fbody.

So it seems like Tremec has no intentions of making them anymore? :( Either way post up a picture of the input shaft when you get it, did they disclose if it's a 1 or 2 piece design?

how much was the shaft from texas driveline?

I think he mentioned it was $400.00
