There's a few really clean builds out there. I love the silver.

that's awesome. I'd keep the doors on it though. I don't understand the infatuation with removing components of the vehicle that are aimed to protect you. So someone smashes into you, their vehicle goes right into your body rather than the steel, etc.

97-01 interiors from the XJ swap over with very little work. Also ls swaps are really easy if you spend a little money and buy all the stuff from novak. Here is an XJ I did. 8 1/2 long arm BDS kit with a 5.3 swap. All the factory jeep gauges work. 993048_643640189002207_187971994_n.jpg

So overplayed. Like the 'salt life' stickers, or the 'if you can read this flip me over' stickers on every lifted JK I see's windshield

OP, I'd find a donor 97+ XJ in good condition, swap over the front end, interior and full 4x4 drivetrain. 4.0L, AW4, 231 and 30/8.25 combo.

Meh. Still safer than riding a motorcycle.

I lived in Florida. Even a speed bump to you 3 miles to recoup.
No joke.

Cool little truck! Good luck!
Thanks!

I laugh every time I see these for some reason

cool little trucks
Yeah they are, you don't see too many of them.

Damn man what an awesome find! I tried so hard to find one for my first ride back in high school but ended up settling with a 4.0 XJ instead. They are painfully slow but somehow still unbelievably fun to drive. I had more fun in my XJ then I have with my Mustang, it's still sitting at my dads house up north, eventually i'd like to do a full modernized off road setup like you're planning on.

Can't wait to see what's in store man to say i'm jealous would be an understatement!
Yeah I was pretty stoked to find it to say the least.

sweet. i saw a beautiful one around here one day, lifted on 35's, nice plate bumpers and painted in that orange color c6z's come in. i actually really liked it and im a toyota guy when it comes to trucks
I was thinking about that color just this morning...

The doors will stay on it.

Great looking XJ! I'd really like a 97+ conversion on the front end and the interior.

Jeeps for life! :p

I laugh at those since most of those owners use them as mall crawlers.

Great looking XJ!

That is my current plan.

Yes! Awesome thread!! I have an 86 Comanche XLS. my baby lol grandfather ordered it in 86. 1 owner with 95k miles. I'm in the middle of rebuilding motor right now. I remember he would pick me up from elementary school in that truck everyday, with a dr pepper and 3 musketeers bar for me. I miss him more then words can describe. My Comanche is more then a truck to me. I used to tell him I wanted it when I was a little kid and he always said its yours. When I was 5 years old he handed me a wrench and we changed the water pump together. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1431133119.819256.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1431133130.802679.jpg

Great looking MJ and a long bed to boot. I understand the sentimentality that comes with a vehicle that is passed down from family, it makes rebuilding the truck all that much more special.

No updates really from this weekend since it was Mothers Day and we had to move stuff from my grandmas house since it finally sold after she passed away this past January.

I did take an obligatory engine shot of it on Friday:

I also wanted everyone's take on how these 2015 wheels would look like on the MJ.

I went with some 07 Moabs on mine. Pretty sure they changed the lug pattern after 08 so those 2015s may not bolt on with out some modifications but I think they look great

just would need some adapters.

I thinki those wheels look good, they'd look better with some sort of color, though.

Yeah they changed it in 07 when the JK's came out. Adapters are cheap though.

Yes indeed. Wheel color will ultimately depend on what color the truck ends up being.

That's badass!
The build for that truck is just insane. Very well done.

That thing looks great.
I like the light bar on top of the cab, it would look great with some LED lights instead of halogens.

Subin'! Always wanted one of these trucks.
Thanks, me too!

We cranked the car up with a fresh battery, aired up the tires, and I took her for a spin around the block! Much better than I expected for the ride quality. Plus the A/C actually works! :pepper:

Pics of it in the sunlight. You can see a little bit where I was testing the paint to see if it can be restored.

I lot of the jeep crowd who actually drive offroad like to remove their doors because it makes it easier to spot obstacles along the trail, especially when rock crawling. Not really my thing though. I like air conditioning.

A lift kit with 4WD conversion, maybe a locker or two & these things will go just about anywhere!

Very nice XJ!

Excited to see the build, I have always loved Jeeps of all kinds!
Thanks.

Agreed. There also seems to be a lot more fabrication with offroad builds as well.

Gave her a quick wash. She looks soooo much better. The majority of the paint (save the hood and roof) seems to be saveable.
