Somebody had to do it. Don't get me wrong, the black is indeed beautiful...

I think it looks awesome! Would have liked to have seen some more standard colors though. Is this straight from the manufacturer?

I thought black was chosen, not because it was the only color that could be had, but because the brake pads chosen for the R made a huge amount of black dust.

The R has the carbon ceramic rotors so the pad material has to be different.

Where did you get this info?

The Rotors on the one I saw are not Carbon Metallic.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it doesn't. They were talked about, but left off the final version of the car.

The R and non R may have the same pads, I can't seem to find the original quote that the wheels are black because of dust.

mind.......blown

That's the type of response that Carbon Revolution needs to hear.

I asked them about color - the canned response is right from Henry F. himself:
"Any color you want as long as it's black!"

Nailed it, and that's the stance Ford Performance has taken with response to wheel colors - at least for the first two years of production anyway.

Anyway, I dug up some more conservative colors and tried not to fall asleep positioning them so that the weak lighting setup and envinroments could give you a pretty good glance at some more traditional color or treatments.

And as mentioned up above, no carbon ceramic rotors. Ford testing deemed them unnecessary as the SHW rotors are that good. I talked to Van last night as he had just attended the Track Tour leg at Sebring. He spoke with some of the Ford people there about the brakes and would you believe they told him that they had yet to change a rotor on any of these cars after all of the track events they have been through (pads have been changed though)? That alone says they are an extremely robust design.

Ford decided against CC rotors for this car, something about steel surviving longer at higher temperatures. Not to mention the cost of them when they need to be replaced.

Ben said CC brakes are great for the street, light, good bite and last forever but on the track they don't live for long enough to justify the $3000/axle price.

Deep red would look sick on a OW R car :):). A deep blue to match the stripes might be better suited for a track pack car without the additional red accents

Those matte black ones wouldnt look too shabby either.

That's sounds like total BS, it was all about cost.

F1 cars use these Carbon Rotors, they do OK at the Track.

Hoops, he speaketh the truth. There are indeed a few quotes from Ford personnel out there about this.

F1 cars fighting for millions each race can afford the extra 20k in rotors each race to save them that extra 1/2 inch of braking per lap. On a street car that goes to the regulated track, where they even control where you are allowed to pass, the cc brakes will not make a ounce of difference. And yet your spending 12k for every set?
Of course it feels better on the street but it will last longer than one weekend too!

he is also completely missing the aspect that these rotors need to work on the street. F1 brakes essentially dont work at low speeds...they need a ton of heat to be effective. This varying level of heat can also lead to variable pedal feel/bite, especially for an amatuer

Ask the Z06 carbon track guys who have swapped out their carbon rotors for steel
