Who buys a car worrying about what it's worth in 30 years? You really think your going to get 6 figures at Barret Jackson like all the Vette, SSR and SS owners?

You going to be alive in 30 years?

Are you seriously sitting there going

"I spent $70k for a GT500.... In 15 years I can sell it doe $35k.... Had I bought a GT for $35k, in 15 years it would have only been worth $11k...therefore I saved..."

If you are that worried about money, you should have bought a 2 year old GT and invested the difference.

No GT hate here. It is the perfect car for our chicks to drive. :loser:

Reading through this thread I've seen a lot of talk about the GT being able to reliably run low 9's etc.
I was under the impression that high HP cars need engine rebuilds fairly frequently. Is there really such thing as a "reliable" 9 second car/engine?

An S197 GT or GT500 has an OEM engine that can easily handle 9's for years and years and be perfectly healthy IF it has an automatic trans. Same can be aid for both with a manual transmission, IF the car works as efficiently as possible.

Where the issue lies is, the average owner/driver needs much more power to 9's. So that is when the stock engine really starts to get maxed out, and become less durable.

Rule of thumb is, an automatic GT typically needs about 680rwhp to run 9's so long as the sixty foot is decent. If stick shift, its usually done with around 740-750

An auto GT500 should go 9's with around 700-730rwhp - and with a stick shift is usually in the 775 - low 800s.

You will have people say they did it with less, and people who do it with more. But this seems to be average from my experience and assisting customers.

If I was given the choice of a 50K mile pristine 2007 GT500 versus a 25K 2012 GT Auto I'd take the Shelby!

I did it with 870hp @ 3970lbs just viking shocks and D spec struts as my only suspension mods lol. So your damn close Kelly on you guesstimate...we also hot lapped and backed it up.

Vmp Gen 2 kit $6800
Return style fuel system for e85 $2200
Full exhaust $2700
Tune with hand held $800
Drag wheels $2300

Already approaching $15k ...not modding a coyote for SOLID or low 9's for $10k. Thats not even counting oil pump gears and/or labor....and trans mods for the A6.

BTW....I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE MY GT500

;-)

You still debating? lol

I already posted the breakdown to get that 9. The VMP stage 3 kit comes with everything you need, that you added additionally.

VMP has this exact combo as I type this, and its not on E85. ;)

You don't need any exhaust. Tune and handheld comes with the Stage 3 Kit. Stage 3 Kit comes with the ability to run E85. However, you dont need E85 to get the job done.

What's kind of strange/funny is that turbo systems like that of hellion cost $1,000 more for coyote packages over the 07-12 GT500 packages and yet are rated about 10% lower horsepower?! LET THAT SINK IN!

5.4/5.8 + Turbo = Winning.

That is my preferred combo when it comes to going seriously fast.

What does this have to do with anything?

It's also kind of strange/funny that putting a Whipple Supercharger on a Coyote cost about $2,000 more then putting a same sized Whipple Supercharger on a GT500 while making about %15 less power with the coyote! Something tells me some people are not being honest with themselves!

The Whipple cost more for a GT because the GT500 already has a SC from the factory. Less parts in the kit.

The Hellion cost more for a GT because the GT500 already has a SC from the factory, and the kit is for compound boost - so it does not include the intercooler and associated pieces for the intercooler.

As for the power, I don't really think a power-adder companies advertised power ratings are very relevant for this discussion. There are so many ways to skin a cat.

I think we have all agreed that due to the GT having an option for the 6R80 - it is easier and more cost effective (based on ET alone) to go quicker / 9's with the GT.

Nonetheless, good info!

And none of what you said makes the gt any more desirable to the majority of us, but keep trolling.

Desirable? Who is talking about desirable?

This thread is about fast cars. Not desire. I will put bus lengths on a stock Lambo, but I desire it much more.

EDIT: I would likely put Bus Lengths on a GT500 with equivalent mod expenses - and I desire that car more than mine as well. ;)

This thread has become about how a gt can be made quicker with less money and nobody cares.

Well it is 18 pages long, and one of the hottest threads in this section right now.

It is good to have some excitement sometimes. This thread has brought a few people out of thw wood works - which is always great!

On that note, the very first post was about the GT being made quicker for less money.
