7.03 is awfully fast but I would not assume it will go 3 seconds faster on next attempt, it might be slower...it rained during the cool down...it's also a special edition Viper, whatever that means..Why race a discontinued car?

Just a livery package and they went to the Ring because Dodge didn't do it. Diehard fans did a crowd funding and got the funds to go and do a record.

You don't know what you're talking about.

That was the 1 hot lap that they got...that's amazing. The last ACR shaved almost 18 seconds off their first hot lap...with the same driver.

They are trying to get one more run in on Friday, and then come back in August. This was crowdfunded by a bunch of diehard fans. Nearly $180k has been raised as of late, and it's still climbing.

Read that they are leaving tomorrow! They need another 50k for unplanned expenses.

$50k to come back. Since then, there's already been $2k donated.

That is fantastic.
It is worth bench racing for a moment and pointing out the obvious.....that was on a true manual transmission, correct? Vast majority of cars in this time range are dual clutch/PDK/some auto or paddle type transmission.
How many shifts do you think there are on the 14 mile racetrack? I bet just the shift times alone amount to a big chunk of time if it had a different trans.
/END benchracing.

Agreed! The Viper & Z06 are the only Manuals up top on that list that are still manuals! Some bad mamajamas those 2 are.

I have gobs of respect for the Vipers and their owners groups...That being said I would bet that some time down the road it will come out that the Viper had "this and that" done to it and was not totally stock...I'm sure that most $ donaters are all Viper owners for their bench racing at "cars and coffees" around the country...The overwhelming majority of Vipers DO NOT race them as most ZO6 owners don't...To me, it just does not make sense on a DISCONTINUED car and it partially tells me it will come out that it's not a stock showroom car because they want to set an unbelievable record and that someone else cannot go out and buy and try to do the same at their local road racing track because they are DISCONTINUED...As for the 18 second claim and the likelihood it will happen again, I will bet you my house it does NOT as this is the same driver as before...my .02 worth.

What they did probably doesn't make sense to any of us because we don't own vipers.
I would say to you if GM had never run a C6 ZR1 at the ring but someone posted a lap time years later after it was at end of production of it running damn near 7 minutes, many would have a more profound respect for the car, and I think that is what these viper guys are after.

Still I take lap times at the ring with a grain of salt as there are way to many uncontrolled variables... it is a 14 mile race track! I would be suprised if drivers can keep lap times within 2-3 seconds of each lap they do even with everything else being equal. 3 seconds on 7 min is a 0.7% margin for error.
That is like equivalent of a driver staying within .84 secs on laps on a more standard race track running a 1:30 lap racetrack.

All that BS i said aside, I think it is cool they were able to show what car is capabable of and I smiled when I saw they almost broke a 7 min lap at the ring. 'Merica

Amazing time.... I hope they can get a few more quality laps in. How crazy would a sub 7 min time be?
