Quick Question: If you want to fight a speeding ticket, is it better to hire one of those traffic ticket lawyers, or pay up for someone better?
I googled a traffic ticket lawyer for when I got a 25 over ticket. Paid him about what the ticket would have cost and he got me “probation”. If I didn’t get a similar ticket for 4 months it would be dismissed. It was worth it imho.

If you were speeding, just pay the fine.

Well, I actually wasn't speeding. The cop clocked someone in front of me but claimed it was me. I had my cruise control set, so I know I wasnt speeding.

I already have three points on my license (read my story I posted in here) so one more point and I get my license suspended. I have to fight this.

Man, I didn't read this whole thread, but I think I may have you all beat. This deals with my minor (at the time) son and my wife.

There is a former NFL football player that is a teacher and varsity football coach at me kid's old high school. Rumor has it that he has a reputation for DWI and that's part of the reason he isn't playing ball anymore. Locals that know him personally told me he still has a drinking problem.

My son drove our Dodge Charger to school and parked next to the coach in the lot. My car had damage on the rear quarter from a hit and run in front of our house the day before. The coach had damage on his doors on his F150. My assumption is, he was probably drunk and hit something.

However, the school resource officer arrested my son for felony hit and run, saying he hit the truck. Even though there is video surveillance that shows my son didn't hit the truck and the damage on my Charger was 18" lower than the damage on the truck, they still charged him.

My wife was dealing with it because I was out of state, and the same officer who arrested my son, also arrested my wife for filing a false police report and providing false witness to an investigation in an attempt to conceal a crime. The cop claimed my wife (who filed the report on the hit and run in front of our house) lied on the police report to protect my son, even though it was the day before my son supposedly hit the truck.

Both my wife and son were facing felony charges.

We found out the cop and the NFL player/coach are friends as well as co-workers and the cop's son is/was on the school football team. Rumor in social circles is that the cop was trying to do his buddy a solid so they could sue us for the damages.

We hired a lawyer who was friends with the judge and the Commonwealth Attorney. We took all the evidence we had (video, pics, paint analysis, etc.) along with the social stuff. Told them that if they moved forward with the case, we were going to the TV news stations with our dirt and evidence.

We never saw the inside of the court room, but we did make it to the courthouse hallway and the local news station was outside waiting for us to share our story.

The coach tried to sue us in civil court too, but the courts refused to hear the case due to a lack of evidence and the acquittal on the criminal charges.

$26,000+ in legal fees and a year of our live that none of us will get back.

Best part, the same year the cop got some big time award for his contributions to keeping the community safe. What a F***ing joke.

Definitely sounds like you need to fight that. What State?

Believe me, I know the feeling. It's a shame that idiots can trample all over our lives, consequence free, and we're stuck picking up the pieces.

I have seen so many good people get crushed by situations like that. Even if they win, they're left in a hole. I could write a list of instances, but to save everyone time, a small bit of paranoia is healthy. Document everything. Refuse phone calls. Get it in writing. Video it. Record it. Whatever you can. And never reveal your hand too early.

And the hardest part of all? We have to accept it.

California. The bigger problem is that he got it on laser (which I confirmed). There were two cars that had just passed me probably going 10-15mph over the limit, and when I asked why he didn't pull them over since they were clearly going faster than me, his response was "because you stand out" (I was driving a 13' 5.0).

I don't know if he made an honest mistake, or if he was just a prick who didn't like a nice car, but it sure as hell wasn't me speeding. Once again it comes down to my word against a cop, and we know how that usually goes.

Worst experience...I took an ex-girlfriend to a lighthouse to watch a thunderstorm.

Little did I know the park was “closed” even though they had no gates blocking the entrance. A car pulls up to my passenger window with the high beams on. Thinking the worst, like we’re about to be robbed, I start the car & shift into reverse, dump the clutch & hit the gas. Throw it in first & go for the exit.

Then, and only then, the parks officer decides to turn his lights on. Never mind the fact that he didn’t have them on before that, didn’t use his siren, nothing.

I took the ticket for “unsafe backing,” then had to drive 2 hours to the court to dispute it. Ended up an “equipment violation,” and I ended up with a stomach bug that day & puked my guts out.

Side note - I start my police academy training in November & couldn’t be more thrilled to be helping people. I’ll never forget that experience, but it taught me to think before I react.

Yes it is.

To make things worse, my wife suffers from anxiety, is on oxygen and is mostly bedridden. She very rarely leaves the house. Most of the time, when she does, its to go to the hospital. Shes a grandmother and has zero criminal past. Not even a parking ticket. They were talking about putting her in state prison.

I forgot to mention that my son was also charged with reckless driving. How the heck do you charge someone with reckless when they are slowly backing into a parking space. Seriously... whole thing on video and that's what he pulled.

The whole situation was so absurd that it was almost unbearable from a mental health prospective.

Hopefully the officer misses the court date.

Things like this bring many of life’s circumstances into perspective. I can’t imagine going through that.

Those animals should rot in hell.

Go back and read my story. I fought a DUI for 5 years. I was not driving intoxicated. Sometimes mistakes are made. Sometimes the officer is a jerk. Sometimes it is all about bragging rights and revenue.

The officer and I get along great. Very nice guy. The DA and myself are mortal enemies.

I'm sorry to hear about the string of complications your family is going through. I wish I could give you cut and dry answers on everything. I can't though. All I can truly do is absorb your story and pray for you all.

The prayer is a given.

@Revvv Thank you so much for the kind words and prayer. Both are very much appreciated. I am going to go read about your situation. It sounds pretty bad from what you noted above. Hopefully we can learn something and gather strength from sharing our life experiences.

I doubt any of you follow this Youtube channel but this happened at Mustang week.

This chick gets arrested for reckless driving and didn't do a thing.

Her boyfriend is on SVTP, I don't remember his user name.
