That tall cf wing will def slow it down in the 1/4. The basic 500 may be quicker in the 1320.

I agree. I think a carbon car with the wing pulled off will be the fastest at the strip. Sticky sc2 tires, and a wing delete should do a lot

I wonder how much it is going to weigh.

My guess is 4069lbs for the base car and 3975 for the carbon

Looks and sounds like a beast! This entire NAIAS seems to be one big snore fest. Manufacturers are gonna do their own reveals at their own pace it seems. No effort in the GT500 unveil.

So all this hoopla and we found out just a few new details, ok quite a few new details but when is the full specs coming out? And when will they be available to order? Also possibly considering selling or trading in my 13 super snake for this new shelby, what do you all think?

I think almost half the dealer trade in offer on your Super Snake will go toward dealer ADM if you trade. And I think your private party asking price will drive buyers to new cars. I think your stuck with your Super Snake...unless you sacrifice sell/trade it. Or it catches fire.

I like how 0-60 is probably one of the most useless performance metrics, yet that's all anyone seems to have a focus on? Anyone who cannot see the raw potential of this platform either does not understand what they are seeing, or has an incredibly narrow focus on what defines "performance."

So what do you think the torque and HP specs will turn out to be? If its sending that massive 4100lb stang down the track as fast as a ZR1, the DCT isn't going to give it THAT much of advantage. It has to be 760HP+ in my opinion. The ZR1 is what, 3750lbs? The mustang will be 300+ lbs more.

I find that very interesting.
The newsletter notes that the transmission was developed in Belgium, with manufacturing in Querétaro, Mexico and final assembly in the US. The supplier says it will provide gear honing machines to Tremec in order to hone all 23 gears, shafts, and wheels that will be going into this transmission. The contract for this gear honing machine was awarded in June of 2017, and the first machine was to be delivered in January, 2018 at which time Tremec started pilot production.

That was not the end of the story. Tremec sent an additional order for more machines in late summer 2017, since they had received a new project dubbed “Ford-DCT.” The newsletter states that they had to modify two more honing machines since the new Ford transmission would be a variant of the GM DCT and use similar parts. The newsletter speculated that the two vehicles to receive these new DCTs would be the Mustang Shelby GT350 and the mid-engine Corvette.

The bolded type is exactly how I thought this was going down. I sent messages last year to Tremec's Zedelgem Facebook page just for the heck of it but they never answered my question as to how many development units they had shipped to Michigan.:)

A former driveline engineer at Ford and SVO pointed me in the Belgian direction. Some here may know who he is as he has a business (involving Tremec) that is pretty much across the street from their new Wixom facility.

I saw this photo from some Belgian periodical a few months ago that had an article on an engineer that worked for Tremec in Zedelgem. I immediately recognized the bellhousing "shape" and figured it had to be a GT500 5.2L development unit. They listed his name in the article so I took a shot and sent him a message to his LinkedIn page asking him why it was taking him so long to finish the GT500 DCT. He didn't respond but I noticed he viewed my own LinkedIn page, which lists me as a ballroom dancer extraordinaire.:) Europeans like that kind of shit so I figured it couldn't hurt.

What was at the show for comparison to the early development unit above...

Sadly, after all that effort and hard work, some twatwaffle at Ford couldn't ensure that they spelled Tremec's name right. From the transmission stand at the show...

And just like that, now it's pronounced TRAY MAC.

I had also scoured various trade magazines, Tier One suppliers financials, and subscribed to some globally produced transmission magazines, some of which lists the details from various transmission symposiums from around the world. I can't believe I missed this one from 2017.

It was 755.
I think that’s what the 6.2/2650 ZR1 is rated at?
Also a DCT GT350 was discussed, now that the Tremec unit is coming online it’ll be interesting to see if they continue with 350 along side 500 or do 500 only.
Gotta admit a DCT GT350R would be awesome!

I was thinking it would do 10.75@135 in most conditions. Post today by Sid197 talked about it having already gone 10.8@133.

This is a fast factory car. 9’s with bolt ons on drag radials cake. Hell, just the sport cup 2’s with bolt ons should hit 9’s.

Stock carbon package with a race fuel tune, slicks and 20” skinnies(? Does such a wheel even exist?) should hit 9’s.

I could see it hitting 1:33’s at Leguna. That is 1 second faster than a zl1 1le and 1 second slower than a c7 zr1

Best bang for the buck car out there.

I am no expert but I found one of the quarter mile time calculator things and plugged in a weight of 4200 lbs to play around with possible horsepower levels. According to the calculator I used, a 4200 lb car making 755 crank HP turns something close to a 10.83 in the 1/4 mile. Not pure science but something to think about,
