Why the hate for Facebook? It's tailor made for what you want it to be.

I don't get people's hate for FB. 99.9% of people here would be against banning guns because some people misuse them, yet the same are quick to jump on the "social media is evil" train. It's a blank tool. You can use it for good or bad. That's up to you.
This is where I either show my age or lack of hipness. I have no clue what “WhatsApp” is. I think my wife has Instagram.

Sent from my iPhone using svtperformance.com

WhatsApp is or was the world's most popular texting platform. The US doesn't have such a problem, but at least like 10 years ago, maybe countries didn't have unlimited texting. More so, users would be hit with extra charges for texting people in another country. You can see how this would be an issue in say Europe where you live in the UK, but went to university in Germany, and have several good friends in (insert 5 other countries) and your parents are retired living in Spain. WhatsApp immediately solved all this and just uses the internet to send text messages. Folks in these countries would literally say "what's your whatsapp?"

Quick copy/paste from google: "The Most Popular Messaging Apps by Country: Of the 94 countries that we examined, WhatsApp was the world leader, snagging the top-messaging app spot in 58 countries, 30% of the world and 63% of this dataset. These countries include: Argentina, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and more."

Yes I agree. Larry would not have posted that video if things were not cool with them. I think this is all part of the plan to hype the fight. Eddie has been posting cartoons for a while showing him beating up Thor lol! So for him to get butthurt over that makes no sense. I think what pisses him off is Larry being in Thor's corner. Well Brian Shaw is in Eddie's corner so it evens out.

I like Thor and it is impressive how far he has come with his boxing training the past few months. But I would prefer if Eddie won this fight because of Thor's bitching about his 2017 WSM win which started the whole dispute between the two. Eddie won that fair and square.

This is just about the dumbest equivalency I have seen in a long while. FB is not a tool for you to use rather for them to use to get you to buy advertised products, engage in conversations that have become curated to force interactions and conflict, and to otherwise force an addiction. That’s how the algorithm works and is getting ever more aggressive. You are in way less in control of FB than you would like to believe. There’s more to it behind the scenes to those who vaguely believe it is just a blank tool, that hasn’t been the case for almost 10 years now (when it was founded). This isn’t a conspiracy theory it’s what those who worked for those companies have shared and have been either written off or burned at the stake for opening their mouth.
Guns are a right not a privilege; they don’t actively seek out those who cannot control their urge to act stupid unlike owning a internet based platform trying to constantly vie for attention, who is now acting as a publisher violating their section 230 privileges with impunity. Not only FB is guilty of this, youtube is grossly abusing it’s 230 rights but the government is just turning a blind eye.

Both are zero harm unless used improperly. One person could get on social media and find a local charity looking for volunteers this Sunday for a food drive and go give a hand, and another wastes endless time arguing with family over stupid drama. It's all in how the user uses the platform. I'm not arguing their business plan or saying they are a respectable company in any way. I'm speaking as in how the user uses it. Plenty of small businesses don't have a website, only social media. FB marketplace has overtaken craigslist. FB is all how you use it.

I agree. Many of my Facebook friends and groups I've joined are right leaning and post anti Xiden stuff all the time. They are not being censored.

I have also used Whatsapp to talk to my mom when she is overseas. It's free because we talk Whatsapp to Whatsapp. You can do the same with Skype though. I have also called landlines overseas via Skype - but you have to pay for a plan.

I think Whatsapp took over because it is integrated with a phone number and there is no need to sign in or remember a password. Skype was probably too confusing for some people.

Yes FB marketplace is great. I sold an old washing machine / dryer on it and also bought an RTX 3090 for amazingly $50 below retail - it was 1 month old. It's worked great so far for close to 1 year.

The only thing that sucks is you might get a ton of responses when you list an item for sale and some people can have an attitude. I delist the item as soon as it looks like the buyer is going to take it. Also helps to have a good price. I am not going to waste time negotiating just to make an extra $50-100 out of a sale.

You ****ing tools keep enjoying your Facebook, as the company continues to support and help push the destruction of America and the ideals it was funded upon.

”but but market place is grEaT”, “but but stay in touch with my fRiEnZ”... LOL

As it censors the people that try to protect you and your family and help dismantle your freedoms... LOL

Bring back Craigslist and forums. If used parts weren't primarily listed for sale on FB, I'd be off of it.

What to know what the agenda of BookFace is? Post something pro Trump or saying Trump won, or the election was stolen and see how long it stays up. Post that Biden cheated, post about how the vax has killed a lot of people or that Covid is just the flu. Post how Jan 6 was just a peaceful protest and not an Insurection. All of the above will be
"fact checked" and removed. Or you just get banned...permanently.
Post how BookFace is the largest distributor of pornography and child pornography and see what happens. Post the Truth and watch it get taken down and get banned.
BookFace is a Communist tool.

Except they do cause harm as they always listen to you, attempt to vie for your attention and now clearly found a way to keep you stuck to the platform via FB marketplace; it isn’t a tool for you it is a tool for them to control you. All of this is driven by their aggressive algorithm that tries to constantly force engagement. The social dilemma documentary explains this with people who built these platforms.
You may naively think it’s a tool for you but it isn’t nor has it really ever been. I am someone who grew up watching myspace live and die and FB as well; unlike the rest of my generation I saw through the BS as I watched it try to force feed me content so I cut the cord from it. It only stays relevant because of excuses like “well the FB marketplace is great”.

Except that I’m sure you have; not from FB links but rather being in the store and subconsciously purchasing the item. That is still programing caused by FB, it’s the same way commercials work on tv. Add in they will use your microphone passively to listen into your conversations… or how about this one as it is a more recent algorithmic change; when you get near another user and it will suggest their likes, pages, and advertisements to try to get engagement.

Speaking of marketplace... it's the largest NON-monetized goods exchange in the world.

By orders of magnitude...look for the entire concept to change. They want everyone hooked in before they "EBAY/PAYPAL" it.

Then the circle is closed

I am in a Bookface group where they have said the election was stolen and Trump won and it was not censored. The groups has a conservative moderator.
