While listening to Mark Levin’s podcast from Thursday, he mentioned that AM radio is being dropped from new cars. This was the first I’d heard of it, so a quick google pulled up several results.

Thoughts? Is AM radio on the way out? Does it still serve a useful purpose or is it antiquated technology that should be retired?

EVs cause AM interference hence why automakers are just cancelling AM radio instead of actually developing a solution.

Tesla appears to be the only one providing a work-around.
"Some Tesla models give you access to AM stations via HD stations"

I like my sports radio am station, as well as listening to the ball games when they are on.....

Not a fan of this decision, and I am sure I could find it/stream it on the phone but it becomes a pain and than it irritates me and it won't be enjoyable for me.

I just sometimes like old school basic things.

Don’t get a s650 then cuz AM ain’t there… listen to my sports while out n about. It’s like the car manufacturers in the sport networks are in cahoots and pushing for people to $$$ towards steaming subscriptions.

I can see dropping AM to free up bandwidth for all of the other electronic marvels coming out.

I listen to AM at home(sports talk shows out of NYC) but AM reception in my 2014 Explorer plain sucks for local stations anyway. I'm not in the market for a new car but if I was and it didn't have AM I wouldn't care.

Drop npr, lol won't happen. Npr is liberal propaganda it will be fine. Dropping am radio is an easy way to limit conservative speech.

Great point.

Something about putzin' out in the garage with a static-ee AM channel playing in the background that's just, well cool.

I haven't listened to an AM station in probably 20 years. Don't ever intend to. I occasionally listen to an FM station (country), but 99% of the time I'm streaming Pandora from my iPhone.
