I've been researching things and I think I'll just get the truck and remove the EGR and DPF.

Just so you know I've gotten more than one report of DOT and HP doing spot inspections on 08 and up trucks to check the exhaust. The fine is pretty heavy for removing an emissions control device.

exactly. plus if you mod the truck at all, and it blows ANY smoke. you'll give it away. leave the filter on there. drive it.

Being a Ford guy I say the ford...but with the things you said you wanted I would reluctantly recommend the dodge. I'm sorry but for pulling power and reliability you cannot beat a 5.9 cummins (This coming from an International fan). The dodge truck itself just flat out sucks...if dodge did not have cummins, honda would probably sell more ridgelines than dodge would heavy duty full size pickups. I have not really had much time with any 6.4 fords but the 7.3L would be next on my list and then the 6.0L.

The 6.0L have had their problems but most run just fine if you do not mod them and take care of them, but if you even put a programmer on it I would suggest that you have the engine studded or you more than likely will have a problem.

In my eyes, the only thing chevy has going for them is their Allison transmission, sorry fanboys but when there is one engine version of the duramax (LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, and probably more I missed) that has been around as long as the 5.9L cummins and the 7.3L powerstroke, I will give it it's due.

Last month Diesel Power Mag had a 99 F-250 with a 5.9 Cummins and Allison transmission in it making 1,420 ft/lb of torque...a MONSTER built with the best of the big three!

Either way being me I could not bring myself to drive a dodge no matter what is under the hood...I will take a super duty any day.

Thanks for the tip Travis. It's an 07 so hopefully I will be good.

I have ALWAYS liked cummins above the other diesels. I don't care for the dodge chassis as much, however.

Just like another member said above as soon as you even look at the 6.4 wrong your warranty is void. The truck is nice and if I was buying a diesel I would try to find a 99-02 with the 7.3.

So tell me about these new Ford SD's... Pro's/Con's???

The Ford is the absolute best "truck" in the heavy duty segment. It is built better, stronger, tighter, and heavier than the competition. However, all those attributes have down sides. The Ford can weight up to 1300lbs more than a similarly configured truck from Dodge or GM. That will help it feel better towing but will hurt mileage, and acceleration. I suggest you drive all the trucks you may be interested in and read this:

The same could be said for any new emissions diesel.

I think it's way too early in that engine's life cycle to make such a statement. The 5.9 is a proven engine.

also they 6.7 is not any better, just because its a little bigger, the 5.9 has been proven to be better than the 6.7 motor. stay with the 5.9.

How do we know the 5.9L is better than the 6.7L if the 6.7L hasn't been given a chance to prove itself yet???

Thanks for the input Travis! I'll definitely test drive them all and check out that link.

In this instance I would look at it as simple is better. The 6.7 has also been having trouble with its VG turbo. Honestly, for your use I believe a diesel may not be worth it. But if you just want a diesel then you should get what you want.
