how long was your spacer? mine is only like half an inch long, if that. sounds like you used to long of a spacer, b/c it shouldnt change your idle at all.

I measured 1/2 in and cut just forward of the mark, it was easy enough to pull off and the idle returned to normal. I will post a pic later of the spacer next to the tape measure.

Looks like on mine they just stapled the carpet to the floor and stuck it down with some sticky stuff under the gas pedal. This was done at the dealership under the factory recall.

I am gonna have to call :bs: on this. there was a kit that included a metal plate that is placed under the gas pedal.

IF in fact you are the original owner and that is how they fixed it you got ripped off by the dealer since that is NOT the approved fix.

IF you are not the original owner of the car and the guy you bought it from told you it had been fixed that way at the dealer, he was lying out his ass.

+1, thats one of the first things I checked before buying my cobra, pretty obvious if you have a metal plate under the gas pedal or not.

My metal plate was under the carpet when I bought it - no kidding. I had actually ordered up a new one because I did not think the recall had been performed.

they did it wrong LOL

EDIT: you know I just thought .. that was an absolutely stupid way to fix. eventually that carpet is going to wear and become a WORSE hazard that it would have been in the first place since the plate actually raises the carpet higher.

Calm down there Tex, the black plate is there, never noticed it before. I did notice the staples holding the carpet down when I pulled it up to find one of the dropped quadrant clips. jesus

A Ford dealer doing it wrong? Could that be possible? So THAT must be why some didn't want to have their dealer do the mod! :lol1:

Exactly what mine looked like. This is something everyone should have done, I could not imagine staying at WOT in a 600hp car.

Fully agree, eventhough I don't have a 600hp car, I would hate to crash my cobra because of this, knowing it could have been prevented. I paid the 13 bucks to get one so I could install it myself. Didnt want dealership to do it.

I love how this thread has split into two different topics both about the gas pedal...either way... I took a razor blade and cut the end off of the spacer and reinstalled, the idle was normal and the car is running fine, it does feel different going WOT the pedal feels like it is not sitting against the floor... thanks for the link again...

haha i know, i was trying to tell them there are 2 different mods being discussed here...eh well...killing 2 birds (mods) with one stone (post/thread) i suppose. =]

anyhow, glad you got it fixed. much better eh? seems like they should have came stock like that.

edit: so your piece that you were using originally was just a little too long...right? just needed to trim it up a bit?

Yes the first time I guess I cut it to long, so a little shave off one end with razor blade did the trick
